2020 XF Sedan Interior

The XF has a simple, relatively classy interior prioritizing functional feel and high-end materials, and yet for some inexplicable reason, Jaguar fails to get it to live up to the standard of its competitors. The steering wheel feels good in hand and ergonomically, all buttons lie within easy reach and have a practical layout. But things feel claustrophobic thanks to a tiered dash design, and the abundance of various materials feels a little cluttered at times. The classy materials are also offset by an abundance of gloss black plastic trim surrounding the infotainment screen, which detracts from the overall look and gives the XF a cheaper feeling than buyers would expect. But despite feeling confined, the interior is spacious, affording class-leading levels of legroom and trunk volume, along with plush, supportive seating arrangements.

Seating and Interior Space

A generously spaced cabin is a hallmark of the XF, seating five occupants relatively easily, although four will be more comfortable. Every trim comes with power-adjustable front seats with a memory function, the Premium trim boasting eight-way adjustability while the S trim which has 18-way power-adjustable sports seats. Heated front seats come standard on the Prestige, Checkered Flag, and S models, and heated rear seats and ventilated front seats are optional extras. The XF has front headroom of 37.5 inches and front legroom of 41.4 inches, which along with the wide range of adjustability means drivers of any height are accommodated comfortably. In the rear, there are 37.6 inches of headroom and 41.5 inches of legroom, which is slightly more than most of the rivals in its class, giving rear passengers the sense that they can stretch out.

Interior Colors and Materials

Being a Jaguar, there's a wide selection of materials on offer to make the interior extra special. There's Latte and Light Oyster, as well as the traditional black offering for the upholstery on most trims, while the S derivative gets Pimento Red and Ebony, Light Oyster and Ebony, and Brogue upholstery options on full-leather sports seats with contrasting stitching. Upholstery is imitation leather on the Premium models, with grained leather on higher trims. Along with each choice of upholstery, everything from the veneer inlay to the suede-cloth headlining can be customized, with the former offering a range of woods, gloss black, and carbon fiber finishes, and the latter available in either Ebony or Light Oyster. The upper dash is finished in stitched leather in a variety of colors, while the central dash finisher can be had in a choice of finishes from Morse Code Aluminum to Dark Hex Aluminum.

2020 XF Sedan Trunk and Cargo Space

The Jaguar XF has a massive 19.1 cubic foot trunk which blows away competitors like the Lexus GS with only 14.3 cubic feet, and the BMW 5 Series with only 14.5 cubic feet. It is also deep and wide to easily accommodate large boxes, and the gooseneck trunk lid arms don't get in the way of loading.

Interior storage is also practical, with enough compartments for small odds and ends. The XF has overhead sunglasses storage and a large center console with two USB ports, and a 12V power outlet. The front and rear cupholders are decent-sized, as are the, with the front and rear door pockets. There's also front seatback storage which is ideal for slimmer items, and a small storage tray on the center console for loose change or smartphone.

2020 XF Sedan Infotainment and Features

Features

When it comes to features, the XF has enough to keep most people happy, but still lags behind the class leaders in a very competitive segment.

The entry-level Premium model comes with a power sunroof, front and rear parking sensors, a power-adjustable steering column, imitation leather upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable front seats with memory function. It also has a rearview camera, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, heated mirrors, and keyless start. Going up the range, heated seats, a Wi-fi hotspot, a heads-up display, four-zone climate control, and heated and ventilated front seats are also available. There are also a number of driver-assist features such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and drowsy driver warning system available.

Infotainment

It may lack in intuitiveness, but it isn't lacking in size, as the standard infotainment system in the XF boasts a ten-inch touchscreen paired with an 11-speaker Meridian sound system including a subwoofer. It boasts clear images and quick responses, but isn't as user-friendly as some German rival offerings. The standard system boasts AM/FM radio, HD Radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB/Auxiliary inputs, with the option to equip SiriusXM capability (standard on the S). Smartphone integration has been made standard for 2020, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay no longer optional systems, while Jaguar's smartphone app allows owners to monitor the car's status and control certain features remotely. Navigation is standard on higher trims and optional on the Premium models, while on the Prestige and S trims, buyers can upgrade the sound system to a 17-speaker Meridian setup.
