Verdict: Is the 2021 Jeep Cherokee A Good SUV?
Though Jeep has developed the Cherokee into a genuinely impressive compact crossover that is also an accomplished all-rounder, there are still some major issues that prevent it from being a vehicle that would really appeal to everyone. All three engines would perform wonderfully in any other application, but in the Cherokee, they are severely hindered by the 9-speed automatic transmission that just can't seem to draw out their potential. Regardless of the powertrain, the Cherokee is also not the most comfortable crossover on the road, nor the most practical with its below-average cargo space. And though it does come with a good number of driver-assist and safety features, both the NHTSA and the IIHS's review of the 2021 Jeep Cherokee returned just mediocre results, which may not be good enough for a family-oriented 5-door crossover.
It's not all bad news, though. The fairly strong V6 motor and the class-leading towing capacity still impress.
