There are six versions of the Jeep Wrangler. A 3.6-liter V6 powers all as standard with a manual gearbox, but an eight-speed auto and a V6 with mild-hybrid assistance are available, as are a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot. The range kicks off with the base Sport, which is a bare-bones model without automatic climate control or power windows. It does have a seven-inch touchscreen interface that supports Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, though, along with basic air conditioning. Between the Sport and the top-spec Rubicon, there are four models. Although there are similarities between them, each model is essentially pre-built to serve a specific purpose.
The Willys and Willys Sport are base-level serious off-roaders, featuring upgrades like a limited-slip rear differential. The Sport S is more on-road biased with 17-inch alloys and all-terrain tires. Crucially, you have to pay extra for safety kit like adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring. The Freedom builds onto this trim with some bespoke military-inspired decals, a winch-ready front steel bumper, steel rock rails, and gloss black wheels.
The top-spec Rubicon comes with 33-inch all-terrain tires, high-clearance fender flares, electronic disconnect for the front sway bar, an off-road mode, Dana 44 heavy-duty locking front and rear axles, and an available full-time Rock-Trac transfer case. It also gets the top-spec 8.4-inch infotainment system with navigation and a premium audio system.
The base Sport has access to no packages of note except the Trailer-Tow and Heavy-Duty Electrical Group that adds a 240-amp alternator, 700-amp battery, and a Class II tow hitch with a wiring harness for $995. The Sport S gains access to a lot more. If you intend to use the new Jeep Wrangler on-road most of the time, the Safety Group ($1,145) and Advanced Safety Group ($945, but requires the Safety Group to be added as well) would be worthwhile investments. The former adds blind-spot and cross-path detection, LED taillights, and rear parking sensors. The advanced option adds advanced brake assist, automatic high beam control, forward-collision warning, and adaptive cruise control with stop functionality.
If you live in a cold-weather state, you might also be interested in the Cold Weather Group package, which adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and remote start for $895. The Rubicon can be equipped with a 4.88 axle that provides a proper 100:1 crawl ratio, but it's only available with the V6 engine. It will cost $895.
There are many other standalone options. Even the base model can be upgraded with a black three-piece hard top for $1,695, SiriusXM for $295, or Mopar black tubular side steps for $395. On the Sport S, the better Alpine sound system costs $1,295.
