Exceptional fuel efficiency and neat crossover styling make the Kia Niro a sensible purchase. It is available in five trims, all using the same power plant: LX, LXS, LXS Special Edition, Touring Special Edition, and EX Premium. Combining a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, the powertrain produces 139 hp and 195 lb-ft and can attain 50 mpg in mixed driving conditions. Power goes to the front wheels exclusively via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The high-value LX comes with 16-inch Aero wheels with covers, bi-function halogen projection headlights, and LED daytime running lights. Although it has to make do with a polyurethane steering wheel and manual seats, it does get dual-zone climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and an eight-inch touchscreen interface. Further up in the range, the Niro comes with leather/cloth or synthetic leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen display.
