Sadly, there are official crash test ratings for the latest generation of the Kia Niro. However, the outgoing model scored very well with both the NHTSA and the IIHS. The former awarded it an overall rating of four stars, with side crash testing getting an impressive five stars. Meanwhile, the IIHS gave it a score of Good in every single category. We expect the replacement model to earn similar scores, if not better.
NHTSA safety ratings are not available at this time.
Standard safety features include ABS, stability and traction control, a driver-attention system, a review camera, and six airbags: dual front, front side, and side curtain. You also get forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking and car/pedestrian detection, as well as lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit. Front and rear parking sensors are added at higher trim levels, along with highway driving assist, cyclist and junction turning detection, and smart cruise control.

There have been no recalls issued for the current generation of the Kia Niro, and there weren't any listed after 2018, either. However, there is also no official reliability rating from organizations like J.D. Power.
Nevertheless, like all Kia cars, the Niro is covered by an industry-leading warranty plan that comprises ten years/100,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper and powertrain maintenance and repairs.
While no official safety ratings have been announced yet, we expect the new Niro to be just as safe, if not more so, than its predecessor, which scored 4/5 stars from the NHTSA and a perfect Good rating from the IIHS.
There are six airbags installed around the cabin of the Niro: two in front of the first-row seats with another to on the sides, and two airbags running along the roof curtain.
