Koenigsegg has been in the business of building top-level sports cars for 23 years, keeping volumes very low, every model is customized for the exacting needs of each customer and now two are identical.
The Agera RS is a development of the standard Agera which was first introduced in 2010, many years of development have made the RS into a fearsome track weapon and it is currently the fastest production car on the planet.
The interior of the Agera is suitably quirky and while its shares some switchgear with other Koenigsegg products, the majority of the switches and dials will seem alien to those not familiar with the brand. This is a good thing in the rarefied sector that the Agera RS resides in and even before you get to step inside, the dihedral synchro-helix doors swivel up in a most unusual fashion to greet you.
Climbing into the low-slung seats is not quite as difficult a task as in some other makes and once inside the level of craftsmanship is superb. Carbon-fiber is the dominant material and other than the round control dial in the center of the dashboard there is not much else to distract you from the road ahead. The type of material used for the interior is up to each customer but the starting point for each RS features Alcantara, suede and Nappa leather on most surfaces.
There is just about enough space for two and there is a front trunk for smaller items as well as an available roof-rack for some additional storage.
As the RS is a focused performance machine, it is not intended to be used as a daily driving road car, the suspension is set up to make the most of the available power on offer and the cabin fills with road and engine noise as the speeds rise.
There is a detachable hardtop that allows for a targa-esque driving experience and heightens the already immersive sounds that accompany an Agera RS driven with purpose.
This level of performance requires a race track and some skill to fully exploit however the level of downforce on offer makes the RS far less of a handful at the limit than you would expect of something this powerful.
Equipped with a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8, the Agera RS produces 1176 horsepower and 940 lb-ft of torque in standard form. The 1MW upgrade boosts these numbers to 1360 hp and an even 1,000 lb-ft. When equipped with the upgrade, the Agera RS reaches 60 mph in under 2.9-seconds and blasts to 124 mph in under 7-seconds. This is achieved even with a traction-limiting rear-wheel drive setup, a 7-speed paddle-shift transmission is standard.
The much-publicized top speed of 277.9 mph is currently the highest of any road car ever built and the RS also holds the record for a number of other performance benchmarks too. The engine has been designed to offer its maximum output even with regular gasoline and E85 ethanol can be used in certain markets.
The specification levels of the RS are largely dependent on each customer, only 25 units will be produced in total and there is a lot of bespoke equipment that can be optioned.
Notable standard equipment includes adjustable pedal box and steering column, memory foam covered bucket seats, hydraulic lifting system, carbon-ceramic brakes with staggered 19/20-inch hollow carbon-fiber wheels and a full carbon-fiber/Kevlar bodyshell.
The aerodynamics have been optimized for added downforce over the standard Agera and there is an active rear spoiler and many advanced features from the One:1 development program that have found their way into the RS.
Notable available options include an active and self-levelling package, 3G connect Pre-Active chassis setup, active sound cancellation and a variety of aero packages.
Individual models are given names such as Gryphon, Draken and Naraya to add further exclusivity and prestige to each car.
The Koenigsegg Agera RS offers unparalleled levels of performance and guaranteed exclusivity, it is currently the fastest production vehicle in the world and of the 25 units that will be built the majority have now either been sold or accounted for.
The full carbon-fiber/Kevlar body and world-class levels of performance make this car a desirable addition to any automotive collection. Customization options make every one sold as unique as the owner.
