The Land Rover Range Rover Velar is available in a choice of four trims: P250 S, P250 Dynamic SE, P400 Dynamic SE, and P400 Dynamic HSE. All trim levels have standard all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission, but only the P250s use the smaller 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 247 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque, while the P400s have a 3.0-liter inline-six mild-hybrid producing 395 hp and 406 lb-ft. The Land Rover Range Rover Velar's specs may not beat the best, but its many off-road features, such as hill descent control, do set it apart.
The base Velar rides on 19-inch alloy wheels and comes with LED headlights, rear fog lights, and a sliding panoramic roof. Inside, there are leather-upholstered seats with heating and power adjustability in front, plus a memory system for the driver. There is also the latest 11.4-inch floating touchscreen interface along with a Meridian sound system and wireless operation of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. These features extend to all configurations.
Further up in the lineup, the Velar gains unique wheel designs, different trim options, and sportier styling elements. A head-up display and ventilation for the front seats are available via the options list or as part of a package.
There are a fair few standalone extras and packages for the Velar. On the base model, the $1,300 Technology Pack adds a head-up display, a 3D surround-view camera system, automatic park assist, and a wade sensing system. Slightly more expensive is the $1,530 Comfort Pack with its solar attenuating windscreen, configurable cabin lighting, four-zone climate control, a lockable cooled glovebox, and an air purification system. The $1,175 Cold Climate Pack contains a heated windscreen, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a washer system for the headlights. Finally, the $2,275 Dynamic Handling Pack adds an electronic air suspension, adaptive dynamics, red brake calipers, and configurable dynamics.
Worthwhile individual options include the upgraded Meridian 3D sound system with 16 speakers for $600, ventilated front seats for $300, and the 3D surround camera for $850. All of these options can also be added to the Dynamic SE.
