While it may have received some visual updates a few years ago, the GX is still an unmistakable midsize SUV. The smallest wheels available are 18-inch alloys on the GX 460, while the GX 460 Luxury gets 19-inch wheels. Triple-beam LED headlights come standard across the range, along with LED daytime running lights and taillights. The front fascia is extremely large and rugged, with an enormous hourglass-shaped spindle grille. The Premium and Luxury trims get LED fog lights embedded in the bumper, while a power moonroof is standard fare on every trim. The Black Line Special Edition looks different from the other models with its blacked-out exterior treatment, devoid of chrome save for the Lexus logo front and rear and the model designation on the liftgate.
The 2023 Lexus GX may not be a full-size SUV, but its dimensions are still ample, measuring 192.1 inches long and 74.2 inches wide. The 109.8-inch wheelbase is visibly short for a modern vehicle, with longer front and rear overhangs than we've become accustomed to in the last couple of years. The GX stands 74.2 inches tall, except in Luxury trim which is lower at 73.8 inches. The GX is a pretty capable off-roader, thanks to its 8.1-inch ground clearance and approach, departure, and breakover angles of 21, 23, and 21 degrees, respectively. This compares favorably against crossovers like the Acura MDX but falls short of what the Land Rover Discovery boats. Yet, the GX is heavier than either of these rivals - it weighs between 5,126 pounds and 5,192 lbs depending on the model.

For 2023, the Lexus GX SUV is offered to shoppers in seven different hues. While trim-level limitations are few, paint colors are paired with certain interior hues. Color options comprise Eminent White Pearl (replacing last year's Starfire Pearl), Atomic Silver, Nebula Gray Pearl, Black Onyx, Nightfall Mica, and Caviar. Claret Mica has been discontinued. Only Eminent White Pearl will cost anything extra, adding $500 to the overall bill. The GX looks rather ungainly no matter which color you choose but darker shades like Nightfall Mica and Black Onyx do go some way towards concealing its proportions. The Black Line Special Edition can only be had in Eminent White Pearl, Black Onyx, and Nori Green Pearl - a color exclusively offered on this special trim.
