The trend to bring out SUVs with sloping rooflines is at an all-time high, and the 2020 Maserati Levante Trofeo is one of the better ones. This Italian machine goes up against competitors such as the Porsche Cayenne and Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The Levante Trofeo is not only a good-looking machine but packs the soul and fire of a Ferrari under the hood: its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine was produced by the supercar manufacturer and delivers 580 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque. Standard features are plentiful, and the ride quality non-existent, but at $149,990 in the US, you certainly are paying for the privilege of one of Italy's finest designs and most arousing soundtracks.
Now in its second year of production, the Maserati Levante Trofeo carries over its feature list from 2019 with no changes.

Italian performance cars are best known for their howling engines, and the 2020 Maserati Levante Trofeo is no different: the Ferrari-built 3.8-liter gasoline V8 engine is helped along by two turbochargers and develops a serious 580 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque. All that power is channeled through an 8-speed automatic transmission and a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system. The exhaust note adds so much to the Levante Trofeo's exotic personality, and it's not all just bark; the Levante Trofeo will complete the 0-60 mph run in only 3.8 seconds and drop most sports cars with its top speed of 187 mph. That's a lot of power and a lot of performance, and with a focus on speed, it's little wonder there is no claimed towing capacity.

The Levante didn't make massive waves when it was first introduced. Still, Maserati has kept plugging away at the first generation of its two-row, mid-size super SUV, and the result is the 2020 Maserati Levante Trofeo, a more focused and faster version of an already capable vehicle. The 2020 Levante Trofeo gets a few things right: it looks stunning and sounds like the real deal. That Ferrari-sourced 3.8-liter V8 engine is one of the better-sounding power plants in its class and helps the Levante Trofeo to feel properly fast. The interior is comfortable and spacious but not terribly memorable, and the ride quality is appalling. The infotainment system could be better, but our biggest issue is its enormous asking price. At close to $150k, the 2020 Maserati Levante Trofeo outprices its main competitors by a significant margin and comes dangerously close to cars such as the Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Bentayga, two vehicles that offer superior performance and luxury. We're also not sure of the Trofeo's reliability. There's only one trim to choose from, so the decision is made easier, but Maserati still offers a few optional extras that add to the overall capability and comfort of this Italian super SUV. Maserati offers the Levante Trofeo with the Nerissimo Package that adds exterior styling features such as black window surrounds, black chrome badging, dark fog light surrounds, black side mirrors, and 21-inch Gloss Black staggered Anteo alloy wheels. As for interior options, we'd go for the four-zone automatic climate control system and the heated leather sport steering wheel. Be careful, though, as the price of the 2020 Maserati Levante Trofeo SUV can climb steeply when you start adding options, and we're not sure it's worth it.
