2020 Maserati Quattroporte Review: Avere Un Bell'aspetto

The 2020 Maserati Quattroporte has been around since 2013 but still manages to turn heads with its sleek Italian styling and great-sounding engines. For 2020 the Quattroporte sedan gets a few small additions to the standard feature list and has a cheaper asking price. New owners get to choose between a turbocharged V6 or V8 option, with the latter delivering an impressive 523 horsepower and 524 lb-ft of torque. We adore its gorgeous looks and sonorous V-shaped power plants, but can't ignore the fact that it doesn't feel as premium as German competitors such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class or BMW 7 Series. And, with an asking price higher than both of those Germans, the Quattroporte is more of a passion purchase than anything else.

2020 Maserati Quattroporte Changes: What’s the difference vs the 2019 Maserati Quattroporte?

In a sense, you've got to admire the nonchalant confidence of Italian manufacturers like Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Maserati. While BMW and Audi scamper to make annual improvements to its models' trims, feature availability, and more, Maserati is content to leave the Quattroporte on the market for well over half a decade without many major revisions. That carries through to 2020, where you still have a choice of twin-turbo V6 or V8 engines in the USA, along with available all-wheel-drive. Maserati has made a few small adjustments to feature availability, though - the base model now has a power rear sunblind and soft-close doors as extra standard equipment. All models now benefit from a wider range of standard driver aids like adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, forward collision warning, and traffic sign recognition. Perhaps the most significant change is a surprising drop in price - the base Quattroporte S now dips below the six-figure mark to $99,490, down from last year's price of $107,980.

Engine and Transmission

This Italian beauty is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 424 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, but in the GTS, a more powerful 3.8-liter V8 generates 523 hp and 524 lb-ft. Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels via a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission. The V8 option is only available in rear-wheel drive. Performance is good, but not on par with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series. However, neither of those can match the Quattroporte's soundtrack.

Verdict: Is the 2020 Maserati Quattroporte sedan A Good car?

The 2020 Maserati Quattroporte isn't getting any younger, but that does not detract from the fact that it is still one of the best-looking cars in its class. This stylish Italian exudes class and sophistication, and even its interior is one of the better looking, despite lacking the build quality and polish of its German rivals. Under the hood, both the V6 and V8 engine options provide good power, and an exotic soundtrack that is difficult to beat, but in terms of real-world performance, they fall short of rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series. On the road, it's a capable car, but is far from being an all-out super sedan, and rear-seat luxury is found wanting. The cabin offers good space, but many of its rivals offer superior rear-seat space. The infotainment system is a standout feature here, but Mercedes-Benz and BMW offer more in terms of overlay standard features, including driver aids. The Maserati Quattroporte might not tick all the boxes, but it exudes passion. You don't buy this car with your head, but your heart.

What Maserati Quattroporte Model Should I Buy?

Despite its great looks, the 6th generation Maserati Quattroporte can't match the quality or performance of its German rivals and also offers fewer standard features and driver assistance systems. Its engine options are interesting but are not as powerful as the class leaders. The asking price of one of these Italian exotics is also higher than the competition. Upon review, the 2020 Maserati Quattroporte S V6 with RWD makes the most sense. It offers more than enough power, and thanks to its lower price, this 2020 Maserati Quattroporte sedan won't break the bank quite as much as the V8 option would, or drink as much fuel. Plus it sounds pretty good too. The RWD V6 S model includes standard features such as adaptive full LED headlights, 12-way power front seats, dual-zone climate control, blind-spot detection, and forward collision warning.
