2024 CX-90 Interior

The general interior layout and dashboard are similar to that of the old car and drivers of the CX-9 will feel at home instantly. The seats of the Mazda CX-90 number up to eight in the densest configuration and the driver's is power-adjustable in all trims. A three-row layout is standard and interior space is improved over the CX-9, with more comfortable seating for the back row. The center console is less cluttered and the gearshifter has been moved over to the side to liberate more storage space. Said shifter no longer gets in the way of the HVAC controls, which are now higher up. The touchscreen atop the center stack is better integrated into the design and the digital gauge cluster looks very smart, on models so equipped. Material quality is typical Mazda, with liberal use of premium materials and soft-touch surfaces.

Seating and Interior Space

Mazda has done well to maximize space inside the CX-90 and in the first two rows, there is plenty of room to stretch out. Middle-row passengers have an ample 39.4 inches of legroom and 39.3 inches of headroom to stretch out in - very similar to what went before. The third row is still only really suitable for adults of small stature or children, but it's noticeably better than the CX-9, with the legroom figure of 30.4 inches being up 0.7 inches and the headroom a significant 1.5 inches up at 36.9 inches.

Interior Colors and Materials

The interior colors the Mazda CX-90 is offered in differ by trim and the base Turbo Select has one option only - black with black leatherette upholstery. The Turbo Preferred, Turbo Preferred Plus, Turbo Premium, and Turbo S trims get leather upholstery for the first row and outboard second-row seats in either black or Greige (a grayish beige). The Turbo Premium Plus and Turbo S Premium trims get Nappa leather in either black or white on the front and second-row outboard seats. The flagship Turbo S Premium Plus' Nappa leather comes in one of two varieties - premium white or quilted tan.

2024 CX-90 Trunk and Cargo Space

The trunk space of the Mazda CX-90 is slightly improved over its predecessor, but it still has a small luggage compartment behind the third row, even if 14.9 cubic feet is a little more than before. Trunk volume increases to 40 cubes with the third row folded and 74.2 cubes with the second and third folded. These are the figures for the bottom five trims with the three-seater third row. The top three Turbo S trims with the 50/50-split two-seater third row offers a bit more, with 15.9 cu-ft behind the third row, 40.1 cu-ft behind the second row, and 75.2 cu-ft behind the first row. The second-row three-seater bench folds in a 60/40 split and the third row folds the same way in the bottom five trims, where it can accommodate up to three people. It splits 50/50 in the top three trims, where it is sculpted for two people only. The PHEV models' cargo space is identical to the normal CX-90's.

There are plentiful interior storage nooks and crannies, starting with the glovebox, an overhead console with a sunglasses holder, and a storage compartment under the front center armrest. Both the front and rear doors have pockets and bottle holders, there are front seatback pockets on both sides, and there is handy under-floor storage in the cargo area. A small storage area at the front of the center console can accept small items such as your cellphone, and this is also where the wireless charging pad is in models so equipped. There is a small lidded compartment next to the gearshifter as well, containing the front cupholders. Cupholders are provided for all three rows.

2024 CX-90 Infotainment and Features

Features

You won't feel short-changed when settling for the base Turbo Select and if you can live with the limited exterior colors and all-black interior, the standard features impress. It comes with an eight-seat layout only, with no captain's chairs available, and upholstery is in leatherette, but the steering wheel and gearshifter are trimmed in leather. The driver's seat has power adjustment and it comes with push-button start, three-zone climate control, a power liftgate, and a seven-inch driver-information display, but no seat heating or sunroof. The standard safety features are comprehensive and include adaptive cruise control with stop & go, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keep assist. Further up in the lineup, the CX-90 is even more generously equipped with goodies like heated seats in the first two rows, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, and an active driving display with traffic sign recognition.

Infotainment

The infotainment system in the lower trims comprises a 10.25-inch touchscreen, four USB ports, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD Radio, Bluetooth audio streaming, and an eight-speaker audio system. The Turbo Preferred Plus adds wireless functionality for the smartphone mirroring, as well as a wireless charging pad and two additional third-row USB ports. Top trims get a 12.3-inch touchscreen with navigation, SiriusXM, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system.
