No official crash test has been performed by either the NHTSA or the IIHS, so the 2024 Mazda CX-90 has no safety ratings yet. But being built on a brand-new platform and considering recent Mazdas' results, we're expecting no less than the five-star NHTSA rating and 2023 Top Safety Pick award that the outgoing 2023 CX-9 earned.
NHTSA safety ratings are not available at this time.
The Mazda CX-90 is equipped with all the expected modern safety features and driver assists. Standard are eight airbags, stability and traction control, ABS, AWD, tire-pressure monitoring, and the obligatory backup camera. All trims are fitted with hill-start assist, automatic LED headlights with automatic high beams, rain-sensing wipers, adaptive cruise control with stop & go, forward automatic braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, driver-alertness monitoring, and vehicle-exit warning. The Turbo Preferred Plus also adds speed-limit assist and traffic-sign recognition.
The Turbo Premium gains an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a HomeLink transceiver, and front and rear parking sensors, while automatic assistance and emergency lane-keep assist are added to the blind-spot system. The Turbo Premium Plus furthermore gets front cross-traffic alert with braking, automatic reverse braking, and a surround-view camera system as well. The Turbo S trim loses the front cross-traffic alert's braking feature and 360-degree camera, but it gains cruising and traffic support and adaptive headlights. The Turbo S Premium and Turbo S Premium Plus get all the driver assists of all the lower trims, plus rear pedestrian detection as well.

We don't know anything about the Mazda CX-90's reliability yet since it's a brand-new product on a new platform and with new powertrains, sharing virtually nothing with its CX-9 predecessor. Mazda is generally regarded as a reliable brand and although there might be a few teething troubles - as there often are with new products - we're hoping that the CX-90 will soon match or improve on the 2023 CX-9's J.D. Power Quality & Reliability score of 81 out of 100. The Mazda CX-90's warranty cover is average. The limited warranty covers it for three years/36,000 miles and the powertrain warranty runs for five years/60,000 miles.
No official crash tests have been performed, but considering the brand-new platform and the excellent crash-test results of the 2023 CX-9 (five-star NHTSA and IIHS Top Safety Pick), the new CX-90 should be just as good or better.
The CX-90 has eight airbags - front, side, and knee airbags for the first row and full-length curtain airbags.
