The next-generation Mercedes-AMG C63 is going to be entirely different. Rumored to be called the C63e, it will pair a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with an electric motor and exist beneath a new umbrella of E Performance AMG models. A combustion engine in front and an Electric Drive Unit at the back will enable incredible traction from the all-wheel-drive system.
Mercedes has yet to confirm the combined power output of this powertrain, but we do know that the 2.0-liter engine - now longitudinally-mounted - will produce over 442 horsepower on its own, aided by an electric-exhaust turbo. The electric motor will develop 201 hp, so the pairing should make the next C63 an incredible performer. A two-speed transmission linked to the electric motor will operate independently of the AMG Speedshift MCT nine-speed transmission.
The next C63 will wear the latest design language inherited from the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan, but it should receive bolder detailing like larger wheels and a unique grille to set it apart. We can also expect to see Merc’s latest interior design with a large, vertical touchscreen interface controlling most vehicle functions. We expect the new C63 to show its face later in 2021 or early in 2022.
