2021 Mercedes-AMG E53 Convertible Review: A Paragon of Vice and Virtue

by Aiden Eksteen

There are many types of high-performance cruisers and high-end luxury cars out there that will thrill drivers and exude class as they're meant to. But there's something special about sporty executive drop-tops, such as the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E53 Convertible, that no other type of vehicle bears. Rumbling beneath the stocky spur of the E53 Convertible is a muscly 429-horsepower 6-cylinder gasoline motor that's been mated to a smarty constructed electrical system that supplements power and eliminates all hints of turbo lag. At the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E53 Convertible's price ($82,850), there's a lot you can expect from the premium sports cabriolet in performance and luxury, but it goes up against the demon that is the BMW 8 Series Convertible.

Verdict: 🏁Is the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E53 Convertible a good car?

The entire AMG-cabrio range is phenomenal and the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E53 Convertible sits right in the center of the specialty line. Along with its commanding presence, the E53 also brings performance that's far more efficacious than its non-AMG counterparts. The 3.0-liter V6 under its hood hones a ball of fire that the TFT Speedshift and 4Matic AWD handle with finesse, while the integrated electric air compressor ensures no hint of turbo lag. The E53 Cabrio is an absolute joy to cruise down scenic straights in or hoon around hairpins with. The interior is as luxurious as you'd imagine a vehicle at this price should be and it's crammed with all the latest features and tech you could possibly want, too. If you're looking to get behind the wheel of a proficient 2-door open-top, the 2021 E53 Convertible certainly won't disappoint, despite not being the most hardcore AMG in the range.
