Merc’s turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with mild-hybrid assist gives us some idea of the direction AMG models are going. Its most potent state produces 429 hp and 384 lb-ft, which is enough to have some fun. Thanks to the AMG-enhanced 4MATIC+ system, you can play around with it a bit. This particular version of Merc’s AWD system can send 100 percent of the power to the rear axle. We suspect this engine has a lot more to give, but we’ll only know for sure once AMG puts the final nail in the 4.0-liter engine’s coffin. The ride is on the firm side, but the E53 comes with lots of luxury features. The power-adjustable heated front seats are excellent. The new 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with MBUX, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto works a charm. The coupe shape limits rear visibility, but luckily Mercedes was kind enough to include a surround-view camera as standard, making life with this coupe a lot easier.
