The Mercedes-AMG GLE 43 Coupe is the second in command in Mercedes’ range of coupe-SUVs, eclipsed only by the monstrous GLE 63 S Coupe. Make no mistake, however, because this is a proper AMG, compliments of a 3.0-liter bi-turbo V6 with 385 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission and 4matic all-wheel-drive are standard.
While not as brazen as the 63, the 43 is still a mean-looking machine, with its 21-inch wheels, mesh front grille and air intakes, and LED headlamps. Quad chrome tailpipes and a power glass sunroof are fitted as well. The premium interior seats five and features a ten-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, the COMAND infotainment system with an eight-inch color screen, and a 13-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system. Many safety features are standard, with the nine airbags complemented by blind-spot monitoring, attention assist to alert of drowsiness, lane-keeping assist, a rearview camera, LED daytime running lamps and crosswind assist.
Four main packages can be optioned: an AMG Performance Studio Package with upgraded styling features and interior trim; the Premium 2 Package with heated/cooled cup holders and ambient lighting; the Premium 3 Package with additional driver aids; and the Parking Assistance Package with active parking assist and a surround-view system.
