One thing you can’t accuse the AMG division of is making boring cars. So, despite the fact that the GLE 43 SUV is 165 horsepower down on the monster GLE 63, it remains a proper performance SUV that’s fully capable of putting a smile on the driver’s face. The 3.0-liter biturbo V6 is no slouch, with 385 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque channeled to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The familiar GLE silhouette gets the AMG treatment, with quad chrome exhaust outlets, a power-dome hood, 20-inch AMG wheels, and larger front air intakes. A power liftgate and sunroof are standard, too. You also get a sportier and better-finished cabin that you do in non-AMG GLEs - smart MB-Tex upholstery and metal-effect finishes are everywhere. Five occupants also get to enjoy dual-zone climate control, a 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and an in-dash DVD/CD player. The COMAND infotainment system includes both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and an eight-inch color screen is fitted. Mercedes takes safety seriously and has equipped the GLE 43 with a rearview camera, attention assist, Pre-Safe accident detection and blind-spot monitoring.
