The GLE 63 and the GLE 63 S provide stupendous performance and the practicality inherent in a large SUV. Whether you go for the 550-horsepower GLE 63 or the 577-hp GLE 63 S, that 5.5-liter bi-turbo V8 is an absolute gem. It’s paired to a seven-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive. AMG Dynamic Select lets you choose your preferred driving mode.
Both variants have AMG-fettled bodies that attract plenty of attention with bulging hoods, LED headlights, massive air intakes, and wheels that start at 20-inches in size. The 63 S gets 21-inch wheels and red-painted brake calipers. Both have a sunroof fitted as standard.
The smart and sporty interior is a haven of exclusive Nappa leather, aluminum accents, and stylish wood trim, although carbon fiber trim is also available. The front seats feature power adjustment and can be optionally ventilated. Both models have dual-zone automatic climate control, a garage door opener, a surround-view camera system, blind-spot monitoring, a 13-speaker audio system, and navigation displayed via the eight-inch color screen. AMG-specific instrumentation and a sporty multi-function steering wheel are unique to these models.
It wouldn't be a true German SUV without the ability to add on a host of tasty extras at considerable cost. Starting with the exterior, the $750 AMG Night Package adds jet-black accents to the GLE 63 for an even more sinister look. In the highly unlikely event that anyone forgets what you're driving, you can option an illuminated three-pointed star on the grille for $500, but we'd advise against this unless your GLE 63 is an extra in a Jay-Z music video.
Far more sensible is the Premium 3 Package which bundles together advanced driver aids like active blind-spot assist, active lane-keeping assist, active steering assist, and radar-based Distronic cruise control. It goes for $1,600. Some of the most appealing standalone features are three-zone climate control ($760), a rear-seat entertainment system ($1,750), and soft-close doors ($550). An AMG dynamic performance exhaust system costs $625 and provides an even more dramatic rumble from the tailpipes.
