Externally, the GLE 450 4Matic looks identical to the 350 models, down to the alloy wheels they run on. Interior specifications are the same, too. The difference between the 350s and the 450 is the powertrain, with a turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with EQ Boost mild-hybrid assistance replacing the four-cylinder engine, and 4Matic AWD being a standard fitment. The GLE 450’s six-cylinder powerplant develops 362 hp and 369 lb-ft and is much more refined than the four. Its EPA city/highway/combined fuel economy of 20/25/22 mpg beats that of the 350 4Matic, too. The most important option is the optional air suspension, which isn’t available on the base car, and which is critical to fix the basic ride/handling issues.
