To keep its practical cargo-hauler fresh, Mercedes-Benz has given the Metris a facelift for the 2021 model year with updates including mildly revised styling, new cabin materials, a better gearbox, and the welcome addition of a new infotainment interface.
While the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine remains unchanged, it is now paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, replacing the seven-speeder used previously. The turbo-four still generates 208 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, with power going to the rear axle. Comfort and Sport driving modes and standard paddle shifters form part of the transmission upgrade.
The exterior receives a new grille, but it’s still instantly recognizable as the Metris we’ve always known. There is more change inside, where a new seven-inch touchscreen display appears for the enhanced Audio 30 or Audio 40 infotainment systems. Along with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Bluetooth interface has been improved and navigation is available.
A new digital interior rearview mirror and available adaptive cruise control are other added features. Mercedes has yet to confirm pricing for the 2021 Metris Cargo Van, which is available with two wheelbase lengths. The upgraded van arrives at dealerships sometime during the first half of 2021.
