The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been a leader in the luxury car market ever since the first generation to wear the name was launched almost 50 years ago - although the model was in existence under different names for two decades before that - and today it stands proud as one of the most technologically advanced and luxurious cars in the world. The 2-door coupe variant may have ebbed in and out of existence under names, but now in its sixth-generation, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe is one of the most luxurious grand tourers around, and we really do mean grand. The amount of attention to detail and a staggering number of advanced technological features onboard this German luxo-barge set it apart from even its fiercest rivals, such as the BMW 8 Series and Bentley Continental GT. Under the hood of the 2020 S-Class Coupe, you'll find a gasoline-fed 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 developing 463 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is the standard means of routing power to the tarmac. With a starting price for the 2020 Mercedes S-Class Coupe of $130,150, it's a staggering $42,250 more than the cost of a BMW 8 Series, which begs the question of US buyers, is it worth it?
Compared to the 2019 model, nothing mechanical changes in our 2020 review of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, which is a good sign for reliability. It remains just as aesthetically pleasing as it has in the past, too, as one of the most stylish full-size 2-door GTs around. For the new year, though, the Premium Package comes standard on the coupe model, including active multi-contour front seats with massage functions, heated seats Plus, and a surround-view camera. Despite boasting a load of safety equipment, none of the major agencies has provided a safety rating.

4.0L Twin-Turbo V8 Gas
The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 offered in the S-Class Coupe develops 463 hp and 516 lb-ft and delivers massive performance despite the notable curb weight and tendency to chug fuel at a rapid rate. Power is channeled through a 9-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels. This engine will get you from 0 to 60 mph in only 4.5 seconds, which is a full second slower than the AWD BMW 8 Series. City driving can be tricky as you try to stay within the speed limit, but highway cruising is an absolute dream.
Mercedes-Benz has set the bar so high with the S-Class that it has made it somewhat difficult for players such as BMW to catch up. The exterior of the luxury coupe might not be as exotic as offerings from Bentley or Rolls Royce, but once you step inside the cabin, you quickly come to realize why this vehicle is considered the best: the design is contemporary and tasteful, and every piece of automotive tech you can think of is at hand. On the road, the S-Class cradles its occupants in supreme comfort, and there's always enough power to overtake slower-moving cars on the highway or jolt from a set of traffic lights thanks to that monstrous V8 engine. Another often overlooked fact about the S-Class Coupe is that it is probably one of the safest cars in its class, thanks to a plethora of driver assistance features. It might be pricier than some of its foes, but it's simply the best.
The S-Class Coupe is only available in a single non-AMG trim, which makes the choice a bit easier. At over $130k the S-Class Coupe offers more than enough luxury and tech for the everyday driver. Standard features such as a 12.3-inch infotainment suite with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and driver assistance features such as forward collision avoidance and blind-spot monitoring make this car a pleasure to drive on a daily basis. For those who want a bit extra, we would suggest going for the Driver Assistance Package which adds driver aids such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist.
