The all-new seventh-generation 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-560e Plug-In Hybrid will use a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 to deliver its power to the rear wheels. The engine should deliver 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ftof torque through a nine-speed automatic transmission. We expect the combination to be good enough for a 32 mpg combined fuel economy rating. This is in a car that is 17 feet long with a curb weight of two-and-a-half tons.
Inside, spy shots have shown a large tablet-sized infotainment screen and luxurious leather throughout. Basing the projected feature set off of the current S-Class would give us a range of safety technologies that help predict and mitigate crashes, LED lighting, wireless device charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a roomy interior capable of seating five people comfortably.
The S-Class competes with the BMW 7 Series Hybrid and Lexus LS Hybrid. Though we don’t have an exact release date or pricing info, we expect a starting price of $100,000 with options and packages taking it well into six figures.
