There is only one Mercedes-Benz S-Class hybrid trim, and its specs most closely match those of the base S500 gas model. It has the same 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, but with different specifications; here it develops a lower 367 hp, but is bolstered by a 148-hp electric motor to take total system output to 510 hp. Only one drivetrain configuration is offered - a nine-speed automatic and AWD. The sole S580e trim level has the same base features as the S500, including 19-inch alloy wheels, air suspension, LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, a hands-free power trunk lid, and soft-close doors. In-car tech includes a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.8-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone mirroring, eight USB ports, navigation, and a 15-speaker Burmester audio system. It also has leather upholstery, power-adjustable and heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, a wireless charging pad, and dual-zone climate control.
The lengthy list of standard driver assists includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring, automatic lane changing, evasive steering assist, a dashcam, parking sensors front and rear, automated parking, and a surround-view camera system. A host of package options can add items such as a head-up display, facial recognition, a heated steering wheel, and a fully active suspension that can lean into corners.
