The next-generation Mercedes-Benz SL is due to debut sometime in 2021 as a 2022 model. The German automaker continues to slowly release more details such as the fact the roadster will only be available in AMG-tuned variants. Another major change from the outgoing generation is that the new model is dropping the heavy retractable folding hardtop in favor of a lightweight soft top.
Under the hood, we'd love to see the V8 engine's return (it is an AMG after all) but chances are more than one straight-sixes will be on the options list. Some level of electrification is highly likely. Rear-wheel-drive will be standard and the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system will be optional. Final testing is now underway.
