2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Crew Van Review: Premium Utility
You may think finding a stylish work van that is as pleasant to drive and travel in as it is practical and capable isn't possible, but the 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Crew Van is here to do just that. It's a premium-branded work/passenger van combo that can be equipped with either a 2.0-liter turbo inline-4 engine or a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6, both of which produce 188 horsepower. The former engine comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission while the latter gets a seven-speed auto. Rear-wheel drive is standard across the board, though a 4x4 system is optional for the diesel. With its premium looks, balanced powertrains, and comprehensive features, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Crew Van stands out from the crowd of typically humdrum worker vans. It's a pricey alternative to the likes of the Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster Crew/Passenger Vans, but its up-to-date tech and contemporary cabin are best-in-class, justifying the extra money.

Verdict: Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Crew Van A Good van?
The price of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Crew Van starts at $39,395 in the USA, which makes it a bit more expensive than rivals like the Ford Transit. However, in our review of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Crew Van, we found it to be well worth the money. There are very few vehicles in this class that will offer as much as the Sprinter Crew Van does in terms of its style, performance, ride quality, and features. It might be a workhorse, but it's been thoroughly engineered and many of the creature comforts have been honed in Merc's lineup of passenger cars. We also like the combination of seating and storage as a happy medium between passenger and cargo vans.
While vans like this are seldom reviewed by the IIHS and NHTSA, the Sprinter Crew Van has an abundance of standard and available safety features that should make this a safe work van worthy of a decent safety rating if it's ever fully tested. Both powertrains are smooth and strong, but the lack of variety in the various wheelbases and roof heights may harm its appeal. More than this, others can tow more. Now in its third generation, the Sprinter is better than ever before and certainly worth the extra outlay over competitors, if you can afford it that is.
What Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Crew Van Model Should I Buy?
The specification you go for will wholly depend on what you'll need the van for on a regular basis. With two roof height and two wheelbases, you're rather limited in the available configurations, but we'd recommend the diesel engine to get the most out of whatever trim you choose. Those that need to haul higher payloads or tow more will look toward the reinforced chassis of the 3500, 3500 XD, and 4500 models, but even the lesser trims are strong workhorses with excellent reliability. We'd spec the Premium Package for the extra driver assists and the class-leading MBUX infotainment, but the Driver Convenience Package is also worth looking at if you value safety.
