The Mini Cooper Electric Hardtop comes in a choice of three sub-trims for 2022. It features a 181-hp electric powertrain mated to a single-speed transmission. The exterior has a choice of 16- or 17-inch wheels, LED headlights, and optional extras such as a panoramic roof and a multi-colored roof. Inside, the Mini features heated front seats, climate control, an 8.8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker sound system, and Bluetooth streaming. Standard driver assistance features include forward collision warning and lane departure warning, but a head-up display is available too.
The price of the 2022 Mini Cooper electric car starts at an MSRP of $29,900 for the Signature, and upgrading to the Signature Plus increases the outlay to $33,900. Finally, the Iconic goes for a price of $36,900. These prices exclude tax, registration, and an $850 handling fee. Mini is eager to point out that this is the third straight year where the Cooper Electric's price remains the same.
Being an EV, the Cooper Electric qualifies for a federal tax credit of $7,500. If combined with certain state-specific incentives, it's possible to drive off in a Cooper SE for under $20,000.
The Chevy Bolt EV starts at $31,500, while the bigger but rather dated Nissan Leaf begins at $27,800.
The Signature sub-trim is offered with a driver assistance package that adds active cruise control and a parking assistant for $750. The Touchscreen Nav package is a $1,700 option and includes features such as advanced real-time traffic information, concierge services, Apple CarPlay Compatibility, remote services, MINI Navigation, MINI connected XL, and wireless charging.
Mini knows its customers are younger at heart so there are several ways to customize the appearance of the Mini Cooper Electric Hardtop, be it via body stripes of a multi-tone roof. The Mini Electric Collection is a limited edition of the Cooper SE which includes Electric Collection wheels and graphics, Piano Black exterior detailing, a Nappa leather steering wheel, and interior surfaces in aluminum. It's only available for the Signature Plus model.
Most of the high-tech features like active cruise control and the parking assistant that are standard on the Iconic are available for the lower trims as well.
