Based on a slightly smaller version of the BMW X1’s platform, the Mini Countryman offers plenty of space. Four drivetrains are available, a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder worth 134hp, a 2.0-turbo worth 189hp, a plug-in hybrid with 221hp, and the hot JCW version with 228hp from its turbo 2.0-liter. Front drive is standard, along with manual gearboxes for all but the hybrid, but AWD is available, along with 6- or 8-speed autos, model depending. The JCW model gets all the good stuff, including standard AWD, rapid performance, and aggressive styling. Optional safety equipment includes forward collision warning and collision avoidance.
