2020 Mini Cooper Hardtop Overview

The Mini Cooper has been refreshed for 2020 to include new colors, trim options, and wheels. Even so, the enthusiasts among us will have to wait for a promised manual transmission version, because the company says it will delay the availability of those models for technical reasons. We will see an all-electric Mini Cooper next year as well.

Under the hood of John Cooper Works models will be a new-generation 301-horsepower engine, which should improve acceleration drastically. The rest of the Cooper lineup will look much the same as it did in 2019. This means a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine, dynamic cruise control, 15-inch wheels, a 6.5-inch infotainment screen, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, manual climate controls, and a Steptronic automatic transmission.

The Cooper Hardtop can be ordered with two or four doors, with multiple trims of each, so the ability to customize is high. The Mini Cooper competes against other hatchbacks in a somewhat shrinking segment that includes the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus. We don’t have exact pricing details for the 2020 Cooper Hardtops yet but expect them to start around $21,900.
