The base Cooper trim is rather scantily equipped with just the essentials, but its popularity stems from its style and handling prowess. Its three-cylinder turbocharged engine develops 134 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque which is good enough to get it from 0-60 mph in 7.7 seconds. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard but a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is available. Four paint options are on offer and leatherette upholstery is standard, along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, but the options list is very short for features and only really offers a few exterior upgrades such as roof rails and some sporty stripes.
