2021 Nissan Maxima Review: A Smooth And Stylish Sedan

The 2021 Nissan Maxima is a V6-powered dinosaur in an age where SUV crossovers and electric vehicles are the pinnacle of automotive evolution. This large 4-door sedan uses its 300 horsepower to breeze around town, and the cushy suspension and Zero Gravity seats ensure you enjoy the utmost comfort while cruising. It comes with plenty of modern tech and conveniences but, like its powertrain, these too are falling behind the times. If you've got your heart set on a family sedan, there are more accomplished runners in the segment, such as the Honda Accord or Mazda 6. However, if you are willing to settle for a comfortable, well-equipped midsize sedan with a little bit of a fun side, the 2021 Maxima might still offer enough to entice you.

2021 Nissan Maxima Changes: ๐Ÿš™Whatโ€™s the difference vs 2020 Maxima?

Now in its eighth generation, the Maxima sedan has been around for 40 years, and Nissan felt like celebrating this with a new 40th Anniversary Edition. This model adds a two-tone Ruby Slate Gray Pearl paint job with a black roof, 19-inch gloss black alloy wheels, black exterior accents, and special 40th Anniversary badging. Inside, there are red semi-aniline leather seats with bespoke embossing and heated rear seats, among others. This means that there are four trims on sale in the USA this year, and they all come with leather seats, Nissan Door-to-Door Navigation, and NissanConnect services as standard.

Verdict: ๐ŸIs the 2021 Nissan Maxima a good car?

Since it's fitted with a V6, you may be tempted to think of the Maxima as a performance car, but it's really not. Sure, it has sleek sheet metal, an appropriate-to-the-price interior that is pretty stylish, and a medium-power naturally aspirated motor - but it simply can't compete with the more luxurious, turbocharged options on the market. If it had a decent automatic gearbox, the Maxima might be able to compete with the Honda Accord or Lexus ES.

It certainly has all the comforts and safety features to make a good impression., though. The NHTSA and IIHS review of the 2021 Nissan Maxima returned perfect safety rating scores, including a Top Safety Pick+ award. The automaker also has a good reputation for reliability. So while it doesn't classify as a plush performance sedan, it still has some merit. Lumbering fossil-fueled sedans may be falling by the wayside, but this one still has a bit of fight left in it, and you could certainly do worse when shopping for a capable family car.
