2021 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet Review: Hard Headed About Having Fun

When it comes to building sports cars, Porsche ranks amongst the best. The 2021 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is a testament to the brand's ability to continuously evolve and improve upon a decades-old recipe. The 911 range is world-famous for its ability to thrill but still be a pleasure to drive daily, and the Cabriolet proves that you can lose the roof but still maintain exceptional levels of performance. Going up against competitors such as the Jaguar F-Type and Mercedes-AMG GT means that the 2021 Carrera Cabriolet has a lot to live up to, but with up to 443 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque available from a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six, and one of the best chassis setups in the game, we think the Porsche has it in the bag.

A few minor changes have been made for the new model year, with all eight-generation 911s now entitled to the extended '930 Leather' package that was formerly only available on Turbo trims. In addition, a lightweight noise-insulated glass can be installed now too, along with lane keep assist, an automatic nose-lift system that knows when to activate based on GPS, and, if you spec the Sport Chrono package, you now get a digital display of your tires' temperatures. A vibrant new paint option is also available called Python Green.

Engine and Transmission

The 3.0-liter twin-turbo gasoline 6-cylinder found under the engine cover of the 2021 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet produces 379 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque or 443 hp and 390 lb-ft in S configuration. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission, and Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S models add an all-wheel-drive system for improved traction. Though neither trim is particularly fuel-efficient, the base model can do the 0-60 mph sprint in 4.2 seconds, while the 4S will manage a best time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 190 mph. The 911 Carrera Cabriolet is more than just a few headline figures, however, and is one of the most direct and responsive feeling drop-top sports cars out there.

Verdict: 🏁Is the 2021 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet a good convertible?

People looking to buy a new Porsche 911 already know that they are amazing cars and are usually just looking for some affirmation. So, in review, the 2021 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is better than ever and is quite possibly the most balanced and enjoyable open-top sports car you can buy in the USA right now. Even in base form, there's loads of power on offer, and the 4S delivers near supercar levels of shove, but the 2-door Carrera Cabriolet is more than just its performance figures; it is a practical daily vehicle that is as comfortable as it is fast, and has all the tech gadgets and features one could ask for (Android Auto would be nice though). Yes, it is expensive, but it's the best at what it does.

🚗What 2021 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet Model Should I Buy

With so many drop-top options available from Porsche, it can become tricky to decide on which 911 Cabriolet to go for, and with expensive optional extras on the table, your chosen trim could quickly bleed over into a more expensive models' price range. If we were buying, we'd go for the RWD 911 Carrera S Cabriolet in Gentian Blue Metallic and add the $5,350 premium package, which includes a Bose surround sound system, a surround-view camera system, lane change assist, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and a storage package. The price of a 2021 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet with this build comes to $133,640, including a destination fee of $1,350.
