2023 911 Dakar Interior

Although sharing the clean design and snug driving position with the standard 911, the Dakar dispenses with the rear seats and comes with full front buckets inside. It also uses lightweight glass and a lightweight battery in an effort to keep the weight close to the Carrera 4 GTS, despite the Dakar's reinforcements for off-road use. Typical 911 fare includes dual seven-inch TFT displays and a central tachometer, but the use of Race-Tex upholstery and a 12 o'clock marker on the steering wheel are welcome touches. There is also a logo on the dashboard with the number of each car, since the production run is limited to 2,500. The new Rallye and Offroad modes, meanwhile, can be selected by a rotary switch on the steering wheel. Once again, there are options aplenty in the interior of the Porsche 911 Dakar, with more Race-Tex, leather, or carbon fiber available whether for individual components or via a package.

Seating and Interior Space

Unlike the normal 911, the Porsche 911 Dakar seats only the driver and a single passenger since the second-row seats have been omitted. Lightweight full bucket seats in CFRP are standard. They look good and also hold you in place securely, but some may find the padding to be insufficient when regularly using the Dakar for demanding off-road use. Fortunately, more comfortable seating options exist, like the adaptive sports seats with 18-way power adjustment and a memory package, which are available at no extra cost. Interior space is acceptable for six-footers with sufficient legroom and headroom, and because the Dakar isn't as low to the ground, ingress and egress are a little easier.

Interior Colors and Materials

The lightweight full bucket seats in the Porsche 911 Dakar are fashioned from CFRP and have a carbon-weave finish and clear gloss coating. A combination of black leather with seat centers in perforated Race-Tex with colored backing in Shade Green creates a sporty effect, and there are neat touches like the embroidered 911 logo on the headrests. Race-Tex is also applied to the roof lining and steering wheel rim. Adaptive sport seats plus that are more comfortable and have a similar color scheme, but this being a Porsche, there are many alternatives.

The Deviated Stitching Interior Package adds contrast stitching to areas like the seats, upper dashboard, armrests, and center storage compartment lid. This option comes with several 911 Dakar interior stitching colors that can really spice up the cabin, especially if you opt for shades like Guards Red, Speed Yellow, or Mojave Beige.

The Rallye Design Package swaps out the standard black brushed aluminum interior trim for a Ceramica alternative and adds colored backing to the seats in Shark Blue. The seat belts here are in the same blue, and Race-Tex upholstery is used more widely throughout the cabin. An Extended version of this package adds air vent slats in leather, and more Race-Tex with deviated Shark Blue stitching to the interior mirror panel and air vent surrounds.

Aside from these packages, there are various colors for the seat belts, central tachometer, and sport chrono stopwatch. The steering column casing can be finished in leather, as can various other interior elements, or you can choose a carbon fiber look for many fittings. In short, there is an almost endless number of configurations, and the materials are of the high standard expected of a Porsche.

2023 911 Dakar Trunk and Cargo Space

As with other 911s, there is a front luggage compartment. The cargo space in the Porsche 911 Dakar measures just 4.6 cubic feet, enough for only around two soft carry-on bags. Other small items can technically be stored where the rear seats once were but will be very difficult to access if the roll cage is fitted. That said, the trunk volume is much better than in the Dakar's Huracan Sterrato rival, and the available roof basket substantially increases the car's cargo-hauling abilities.

There are bottle holders and storage pockets in each door, a cupholder in the center console, another cupholder on the passenger side, and a small center console compartment.

2023 911 Dakar Infotainment and Features

Features

No Porsche 911 has ever been about a long list of comfort and convenience items, and the same is true for the Dakar which focuses on the essentials. Dual-zone climate control with an air quality sensor and a particle/pollen filter with an active carbon filter seems rather important in a car that you can take out into the desert and abuse for hours, and that's standard. Conventional cruise control makes highway commuting a bit less of a chore, and front/rear parking sensors with a rearview camera take the effort out of parking. Comfort Access with Keyless Go and a function to unlock when approaching the car, while also including an opening gesture for the frunk, are standard as well. A programmable garage door opener, electric seat height adjustment (with manual fore/aft adjustment), a 12-volt socket, and ambient lighting are also standard.

A heated GT Sport steering wheel is a no-cost option, as are heated seats. The heated seats can only be combined with the 18-way adaptive sport seats with memory, another no-cost option. For $1,430, you can add a surround-view camera system. Most other optional features are related to interior materials and don't actually add any functionality to the car.

Infotainment

Information is presented to the driver via either dual seven-inch TFT displays in the instrument cluster or on the 10.9-inch central color touchscreen, which sees to infotainment duties. The icons on this screen are rather small, and it's positioned slightly too far from the driver, but there are otherwise not many complaints about its operation. As with other newer Porsche models, both wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto are standard, along with SiriusXM, Bluetooth, an LTE communication module, and navigation.

We've found the 12-speaker Bose sound system to be good rather than great in other 911s, but this has never been a Porsche strength. For $3,980, you can equip a 13-speaker Burmester high-end surround sound system with 855 watts of punch.
