For use in the Macan, Porsche has tuned the Volkswagen Group’s corporate 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to produce 261 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The Macan receives 19-inch alloy wheels, along with sporty dual exhaust outlets. It uses the same intelligent AWD system but loses out on the adaptive damping from upper-spec models in standard trim. Buyers tend to underestimate the base Macan, because it has less power, but it is still far from being a slug. And, because the four-cylinder up front weighs less than the V6 engines in use higher up the range, it’s also keener to turn into a corner. Don’t make the mistake of dismissing this model simply because it has the smallest engine.
