2021 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid Review: Electrified Excellence

The 2021 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid is an executive luxury 4-door car that hides massive performance behind elegant, and somewhat reserved styling. When the Panamera first came out, people questioned its looks and ability. Very little has changed, especially since Porsche added the 'E-Hybrid' tag to this machine. We are happy to report that despite the hybrid connotations, this is a luxury sedan that absolutely rips: its 2.9-liter V6 engine and electric motor setup produces an impressive 552 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque which it sends to all four wheels. This makes it stupidly quick, but not as thirsty as its all-gas siblings and a viable alternative to mild-hybrid offerings like the Mercedes-AMG GT 53. The Turbo S E-Hybrid is even wilder thanks to a 690 hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo setup. As can be expected, the interior is stunning, and the ride refined. Porsche does charge an arm and a leg for optional extras, but that's a price we're willing to pay, because the Panamera E-Hybrid sedan is just that good.

Engine and Transmission

It might be a hybrid, but that doesn't mean that this Porsche doesn't know how to boogie. Under the hood of the 2021 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid sedan you'll find a 2.9-liter twin-turbo 6-cylinder gas engine linked to an electric motor for a total power output of 455 hp. Going up to the 4S E-Hybrid incleases power to 552 hp and 553 lb-ft. Power is sent to an all-wheel drivetrain via an 8-speed automatic transmission. This places the hybrid on par with the Turbo model from last year in terms of power outputs. Engage launch control, and the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid will smash the 0-60 mph sprint in only 3.5 seconds. The Turbo S E-Hybrid packs a 690-hp punch and will get to 60 mph in only 3 seconds, topping out at 196 mph.

Verdict: Is the 2021 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid A Good sedan?

Every time we revisit the Porsche Panamera, in any of its numerous configurations, we keep getting blown away by its stunning balance of performance and practicality. Yes, the looks of this car will always be up for debate, but it has gotten considerably better looking with time - as it is now in its second generation. Two things will make you forget about its questionable styling: how it drives, and what it's like to sit in the cabin. Porsche, as with many other performance-minded brands, is becoming increasingly adept at making hybrid and electric cars seriously quick, and the Panamera Hybrid is a prime example.

This 552-hp hybrid is blisteringly quick, and will surprise many supercars at the traffic lights. It also handles better than its size and curb weight would suggest, but the Panamera has always been an impressive handling machine. Inside, there's lots of space, lots of comfort and tech, and a practical trunk, making this one of the most practical Porsche cars you could own. As with most six-figure luxury cars in the US, the 2021 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid has not been put to review for a reliability or safety rating. Still, it's well-built by true experts, and comes equipped with lots of modern safety features.

Yes it's expensive, but it's pretty much the best at what it does.

What Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid Model Should I Buy?

The Panamera was never intended to be taken to track days, especially in hybrid form, and even in its least powerful configuration, this vehicle still blows the doors off of most day to day cars, so we would recommend settling for the mid-tier 4S E-Hybrid. With well over 500 hp to its name, a 0-60 mph sprint time of only 3.5 seconds, and a top speed of 185 mph, you'll have more than enough power to play with and you'll skip out on the massive $189,800 price tag of the 2021 Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.
