2021 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Review: Blistering Practicality

The 2021 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo wagon is an attempt to make the German manufacturer's four-door sedan more practical. And easier on the eye in the process.

The 2021 Sport Turismo lineup consists of the relatively sedate Panamera 4 to the fierce twin-turbocharged V8 2021 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo GTS.

Since the Sport Turismo is a station wagon, it comes with a decent helping of practicality, but it retains the impressive engines developing between 325 and 473 horsepower. This power comes from either a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 or a twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The Sport Turismo wagon may seem expensive, but it does boast proper Porsche-like performance. It's well-placed to take on rivals like the Audi RS6 Avant and Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon.

2021 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Changes: 🚙What’s the difference vs 2020 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo?

The Sport Turismo benefits from the same facelift as the standard Panamera. A few colors have been added to the palette, and some new wheel designs are available. There's a new SportDesign front fascia and a revised rear end with an overall sleeker appearance. The main upgrade to the interior is a new steering wheel, and on the safety side, lane-keep assist and traffic sign recognition are now standard. Porsche also says it made some subtle tweaks to the steering and adaptive damping. As far as we're concerned, the biggest news is the death of the base model's 3.0-liter turbocharged V6. This engine has been dropped in favor of a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 used higher up in the range. Finally, the high-performance GTS receives a 20-hp boost over last year's model.

Verdict: 🏁Is the 2021 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo a good wagon?

There are a few things wrong with the 2021 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo 5-door. For a start, it lacks quite a few features, most notably when it comes to driver assistance features. Lane-keep assist and traffic sign recognition are now standard on the 2021 model year, but it still doesn't make up for the fact that cars costing a third of the 2021 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo wagon's price offer adaptive cruise control as standard.

Porsche's pricing is also too high, starting at $101,200. A mid-spec Sport Turismo 4S costs more than the top-spec rival cars, which include the Audi RS6 Avant and the Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon. The tweaks to the steering and adaptive damping have made it a better driver's car. It now feels like a Porsche, which is the highest compliment you can give a vehicle when it comes to driving dynamics. It still feels heavy, however. This is perfectly demonstrated by the base model's relatively slow performance figures.

It is a Porsche, however. That means you get an alluring badge, a beautifully crafted interior, and superb build quality. Porsche also has a stunning reputation for solidity and reliability. This is despite the fact that neither the NHTSA nor IIHS has put the 2021 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo to review for an official safety rating.

There are better station wagons out there, even though most US buyers have fallen out of love with the station wagon, but none of them have a Porsche badge. The fact that Porsche built this car gives us hope, but some updates are required. Perhaps if there is a third-generation model in a couple of years, it will be everything we hoped for.
