The performance is typically Porsche, which means efficient yet brutal. However, at over $100,000, the specs of the base Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo are good rather than great.
Even in base form, the Panamera Sport Turismo will rocket to 60 mph in five seconds flat, or 4.8 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package, and top out at 164 mph. The 2.9-liter engine delivers a pleasing howl as it climbs through the rev range, and power delivery is linear but oh-so-satisfying. There's also very little turbo lag.
Stepping up to the more capable 4S Sport Turismo bags you a healthy 443 hp, lowers the 0-60 mph sprint time to 4.1 seconds (3.9 with the Sport Chrono Package), and ups the top speed to 180 mph. This should be enough for most, but for hardcore fans that want to go even faster, Porsche offers the GTS, which will zoom to sixty in only 3.7 seconds and top out at 182 mph thanks to a twin-turbo V8 engine and 473 hp.
The top hybrid model is just as quick: the 552-hp 4S E-Hybrid will get to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and hit 182 mph. Producing 455 hp, the cheaper 4 E-Hybrid makes 455 hp and will hit 60 in 4.2 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package.
The base model is equipped with a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 producing 325 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque, and power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This powertrain delivers good performance, but we prefer the uprated 4S version, which churns out an improved 443 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. The GTS is the most potent gas-only option, with 473 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque coming from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine in this particular Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo model. Not only does it sound better than the V6, but acceleration and passing power and effortless.
The Panamera Sport Turismo is also offered in hybrid guise, where it is paired up with the 2.9L engine and an electric powertrain. In hybrid guise, the Panamera produces 455 hp/516 lb-ft or 552 hp/553 lb-ft combined.
No matter what engine you go for, the Panamera Sport Turismo is a great highway cruiser, and in town, there's always enough power to get this big ship going. We'd go for something other than the base option if you want to feel any sort of rapid acceleration.
