The 2021 Porsche Panamera, a mid/full-size luxury vehicle now in its second generation, has always been a bit of a controversial character. When Porsche first introduced this car back in 2010, Porsche fans were not impressed with its front-engine, 4-door layout, and seemingly botched looks, but the Panamera has proven to be a popular model for the German sports car manufacturer and has become a well-loved model that delivers excellent practicality, and brutal performance in the right spec. For 2021, the Panamera gets a few styling updates inside and out and a slight chassis tweak. The most powerful Panamera on offer before you enter Turbo territory is the GTS which offers 473 horsepower from its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine. Going up against competitors such as the Audi A7 and Mercedes-AMG GT 63, it has its work cut out, but Porsche knows precisely what it's doing.
The 2021 Porsche Panamera looks slightly more aggressive this year thanks to the newly standard (previously optional) SportDesign front fascia, and the rear-end now features a full-length LED light strip and a more aggressive diffuser. Under the skin, the 2021 Panamera sedan also gets a slightly reworked chassis and, inside, there's an updated steering wheel with integrated shift paddles. Safety has been bolstered by the addition of standard lane-keeping assist and traffic-sign recognition. Two new exterior colors, Truffle Brown and Cherry Red Metallic, add some individualism.

There will always be haters, especially if you're killing it. Hardcore Porsche fans have never been massive fans of the Panamera, but this car is undeniably good. Over the years, the styling has evolved into something that can legitimately be described as 'attractive,' and the addition of the SportDesign front fascia doesn't hurt. On the inside, the Panamera is a truly opulent piece of kit. Yes, certain interior options are a bit pricey, but even in base form, it's an extremely comfortable place to be, and there's more than enough space for four adults to get comfy on a long road trip.
Porsche has an excellent reputation for reliability, despite there being no review of the 2021 Porsche Panamera from safety rating organisations such as the NHTSA or IIHS in the US. The sedan receives a full array of airbags, but there are limited advanced safety or driver-assist features.
Little can touch the Panamera on the road in terms of sheer driving pleasure: this car drives like something half its size and can be highly entertaining, or highly comfortable, depending on your mood. The base model is punchy, and the GTS is simply ridiculous, offering blindingly fast acceleration. Tech is up to class standards, but you're going to have to pay dearly if you want a fully kitted top-of-the-line model. In short, few machines offer such an all-round solid package in this class.
There's a surprising amount of options here, so your choice will primarily be based on two things: what you can afford and how much power you're after. As we've said before, even in base form, the Panamera is a quick car, accelerating to 60 mph in only 5.3 seconds and topping out at 168 mph. For most, that's plenty, but we'd suggest going for the middle of the road 4S, which ups power to 443 hp and drops the 0-60 mph sprint down to 4.1 seconds. The price of the 2021 Porsche Panamera sedan in this configuration starts at $106,400. You can throw in some options if you really want, but this is all the car you'll ever need, and then some.
