2024 Porsche Panamera First Look Review: Luxury Express

Sports sedans are the best evolution of the family car, and since traditional three-box, four-door vehicles are waning in popularity, it's a delight that cars like the Porsche Panamera still exist. With a lineup of Panamera derivatives that include an extended-length version, E-Hybrids, and the wagon-esque Sport Turismo, the latest Porsche Panamera arrives in the USA with more power, attractive styling, and a fresher interior. Starting with the base model, the 2024 Porsche Panamera's specs now read as follows: 348 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque, a five-second dash to 60 mph, and an available all-wheel-drive model that cuts that sprint down to 4.7 seconds. What is it about Porsche models that make them so beloved?

When Is The 2024 Porsche Panamera Coming Out?

The release date for the Porsche Panamera is set for Spring of 2024. It will arrive at dealerships in the USA before the Turbo E-Hybrid models.

2024 Porsche Panamera Price and Competition

The price of the 2024 Porsche Panamera starts at $99,900, excluding the $1,650 delivery fee. This is quite a bit more than the $92,400 sticker price of 2023 models. 2024 Panamera 4 models have a starting MSRP of $106,900, also a significant increase over the current models.

Rivals in this segment include the Audi S7 (the RS7 traditionally competes with Panamera GTS models) and BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe. Audi offerings start at a lower price of $84,500 but the RS7 with over 620 hp has a much higher price tag of $127,800. The 2024 BMW 840i Gran Coupe starts at $90,800, or you can get the V8-powered M850i xDrive for $106,300 - it has far more power than the Panamera 4 for less money.

New Porsche Panamera Exterior and Colors

The exterior of the new Porsche Panamera sedan is where the refresh is most visible. Although the majority of the press-supplied images are of the Panamera E-Hybid (seen below in Madeira Gold below), the changes to the body of the sedan are the same. The front end shows off the standard LED Matrix Design headlights, and there is a new nose section that shows off a larger central air intake and an additional space above the license plate holder. The latter is specifically designed to meet the increased airflow needs of the new powertrains.

There are also new window lines with the edges of the rear glass sitting flush with the body, and the full-width taillight bar is a little more seamless than before. There are new wheel designs for 2024, with options including center-locking alloys. We haven't been given all the details yet, but the automaker notes that Turbo models will be differentiated by bespoke Porsche crests, airblades, side window trim, and model-specific 21-inch center-locking wheels.

Paint colors for the Porscha Panamera haven't been explicitly discussed, so we assume the existing palette will carry over with Paint To Sample still being the priciest - and most expressive - option on the menu. Turbo models will have some bespoke options, too, and are set apart by interior and exterior Turbonite accents.

Porsche Panamera Dimensions

The dimensions for the 2024 Porsche Panamera show that while there have been some tweaks to how it looks, not too much has changed since most of the measurements carry over. This includes a length of 198.9 inches, a width of 76.3 inches, and a height of 56 inches. The wheelbase will likely remain at 116.1 inches.

We assume curb weight may change slightly, starting at around 4,200 pounds for the base Panamera and all-wheel-drive models adding around 100 pounds over and above that.

Porsche Panamera Engine and Performance

With the automotive world going green, it's no surprise that the E-Hybrid powertrains take center stage in the Panemera lineup, but we review those separately. For the Panamera and Panamera 4 models, the base powertrain is a 2.9-liter turbocharged V6 that's been optimized with more boost pressure, injection volume, and enhanced ignition timing.

For the 2024 Porsche Panamera, the engine makes 348 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque, which is up by 23 horses and 37 lb-ft. The 0-60 mph sprint has improved for the base Porsche Panamera, taking five seconds - three-tenths quicker than before, and likely quicker still with the Sport Chrono Package. Top speed is a smidge higher at 169 mph. Panamera 4 models have the benefit of all-wheel drive, which sees further improvement, dropping the 0-60 time from five seconds to 4.7. There's no confirmation yet of whether the non-hybrid Turbo and GTS models will be rebooted for 2024.

All Panamera models get standard two-chamber, two-valve air suspension with the brand's electronic damping control system (PASM) to ensure all bumps and road scars are dealt with. Rear-wheel steering is also available on the options list.

Some changes for the new model year include a new function on the active speed assistance system which sees it work in conjunction with traffic sign recognition to follow the posted speed limit. The InnoDrive system has also been enhanced with updated lane keep assist and crossroad assist, and there's a new function for evasive maneuvers like sudden lane changes. And finally, the Panamera can now be controlled from outside the car via smartphone during automated parking.

Gas Mileage

Gas mileage figures will likely differ from what the outgoing model's 18/24/20 mpg ratings were on the city/highway/combined cycles, but whether it will be an improvement or not remains to be seen. Those specs are the same for the outgoing Panamera 4 with AWD.

The gas tank should still allow for a fuel capacity of 23.7 gallons, however, so we expect a range upwards of 460 miles, even if the gas mileage figures take a bit of a knock.

Porsche Panamera Interior and Cargo

Inside, the new Porsche Panamera sedan also looks markedly different, although the basic layout of the dashboard is retained. The gear shifter lever has been done away with for the new model, and in its place, a rotary controller now sits on a redesigned center stack. A 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster is standard, and the same 12.3-inch infotainment display is still present, but a new optional extra is a 10.9-inch passenger screen that can display performance data, infotainment system operation, or video streaming. For safety reasons, it can't be seen by the driver from their point of view.

The fresh center stack design also hosts a new air conditioning control panel and vent and also hosts a cooled compartment where you can charge your smartphone wirelessly. This is available under a lidded area, with two cupholders just behind it.

A variety of new accent and decor packages will be made available to buyers, along with the capability of signing into your digital space by means of Porsche ID on your smartphone - the car connects to both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to share even vehicle data and functions.

Still, the Porsche Panamera seats four in a 2+2 configuration although a 2+1 rear seat is available; the latter is best avoided as the rear seats are rather tight on space to begin with. Executive models have historically amped up the comfort and rear-seat space for a more luxurious experience, and we're likely to see this option make a return in 2024.

In any configuration, current Porsche Panamera models have a standard interior with partial leather in colors like Black, Agate, and Black/Luxor Beige. Upgrades include proper leather and Club Leather in shades like Cohiba Brown, Truffle Brown, Black/Bordeaux Red, Marsala/Cream, and Saddle Brown, which are likely to be available for the new model year. Turbo models will get some unique bits and pieces, most notably, embossing and monotone Porsche crests.

Like other dimensions, cargo space in the Porsche Panamera should carry over. This avails 17.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats, and a maximum of around 47.3 cubes; extra-length Executive models have more trunk volume available.
