2023 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo Review: EV Adventures

Porsche shocked the motoring world when it announced its first-ever EV, the Taycan, but once it arrived, people were quickly convinced of its prowess. Now the German sports car manufacturer has gone and built an off-road version: say hello to the 2023 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo. This lifted version of the standard Taycan looks even cooler than the coupe, and despite its bigger booty, it still delivers the goods. The Taycan 4S Cross Turismo delivers 562 horsepower and will hit 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds. With gas-fed competitors such as the Audi RS6 Avant, and the mighty Tesla Model X to contend with, the 2023 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo has its work cut out, and in this review, we see how close it comes to the top of the performance EV ladder.

What's the Price of the 2023 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo?

The new Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo's price ranges from an MSRP of just below $100,000 for the base model to the mid-$110k mark if you want the 4S. For the extra cash, you get a big bump in horsepower and capability. It doesn't stop there, though. If you want all the shiny extras available to the Cross Turismo, you can expect to pay over $150,000. These prices exclude tax, registration, and a destination and handling fee of $1,450.

2023 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo Handling and Driving Impressions

Porsche cars tend to be low-slung sports machines that carve through canyons without showing the slightest hint of body roll, so has the lifted ride height of the 2023 Taycan Cross Turismo EV affected its handling in a significantly negative way? The short answer is no, it hasn't. When Porsche designed this car, it made sure to give it a balanced and low center of gravity, which helps keep things planted and stable, and even a slight lift in ride height hasn't undone all of that engineering. The new Taycan Cross Turismo wagon is still supremely comfortable to drive on city roads, soaking up bumps even better than the standard Taycan. In the suburbs, it simply feels like a luxury German sedan. Its more relaxed suspension setup is noticeable in the corners, but the car hasn't lost its sporting pedigree and will still happily carve up back roads across the USA. Comfort, Sport, and Range mode all change the handling and throttle dynamics of this car, and Sport is obviously the one to go for when you want to drive fast. Push this car hard, and the rear end will happily slide out, especially on dirt or gravel roads where this EV shines.

Verdict: Is The 2023 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo A Good car?

If Porsche continues this trend of building niche EVs, we'll soon end up with an amphibious Taycan or a Taycan on tank tracks. Yes, the 2023 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo fills a very special corner of the EV market, but it's still based on a winning recipe and looks and feels just as purposeful as the car it's based on. Sure, it's a pricey piece of equipment, and the range could use even more of a bump, but the overall package is just too good to ignore. The Cross Turismo brings some much-needed practicality to the table and the ability to go off the beaten path. Most will appreciate its softer suspension setup in the city, where it glides like a true luxury car. Performance is still explosive, and the levels of luxury are top-notch. The only thing holding this adventure EV back is its range, but the recent updates should slightly improve that.

What 2023 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo Model Should I Buy?

We wouldn't settle for the cheapest model but rather pay the extra money for the more powerful Taycan 4S Cross Turismo configuration. This model ups the power from 469 hp to 562 hp and drops the 0-60 mph time from 4.8 seconds to 3.9 seconds. If we were buying, we'd get one in Volcano Grey Metallic with 21-inch Cross Turismo wheels. We'd also add the Off-road Design Package, roof rails and LED Matrix-design headlights. Inside, we'd throw in the Premium Package, including the Technology Package, leaving us with a feature-packed Taycan Cross Turismo with an asking price just north of $130k.
