2023 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo Performance

It is common knowledge that electric vehicles tend to bolt off the line thanks to their instant torque delivery, but sit behind the wheel of a Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, and you truly get a sense of what the whole performance EV thing is all about. The base model Taycan 4 Cross Turismo will go from 0 to 60 mph in only 4.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 137 mph. These figures might not seem that crazy, but the car feels like a rocket ship in the real world. Stepping up to the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo sees power going up from 469 horsepower in the base model to 562 hp. This results in a 0-60 mph time of only 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph.

Rather than an engine, both PorscheTaycan Cross Turismo models are powered by two AC permanent synchronous motors and a 93.4-kWh Performance Battery Plus that has been updated to give quicker charging rates and improved range. Power is sent to all four wheels via a two-speed automatic transmission and an advanced AWD system. The base model develops 469 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque, while the 4S churns out 562 hp and 479 lb-ff. Both vehicles feel amazing off the line and, despite their unimpressive top speeds, will destroy most sports cars in and around the city. Slow city driving is an effortless task, and highway cruising is equally as impressive thanks to seamless waves of torque available at the tip of your toe.

The EPA is yet to post official mileage figures for the new model year, but the previous figures show 76/77/76 MPGe for the 4 Cross Turismo on the city/highway/combined circuit and 75/75/75 MPGe for the 4S Cross Turismo. Both models have a claimed range of around 215 miles, which puts them far behind the 360-mile range of the Tesla Model X, and even this year's battery updates won't be able to make up the difference. It takes ten and a half hours to fully charge the Taycan via a 9.6 kW AC home charger, but it only takes 93 minutes to charge from 5% to 80% via a 50 kW DC charger. A 270 kW will get you from five to 80 percent in just 22.5 minutes. With a battery pack set up for next-gen charging, the Taycan has an advantage over other competitors.
