The HFE is an attempt at making the 1500 as efficient as possible by including 20-inch alloy wheels with low-resistance tires as standard. It loses the normal Trademan’s oil cooler and rear stabilizer bar too. This model is only available in 4x2 guise and with the base gasoline V6 engine. The economy gains aren’t that big, with a gain of just 1 mpg for the EPA’s highway and combined cycles. Pickup trucks are inherently inefficient, and the HFE’s modifications aren’t enough to change that by much. The HFE’s maximum payload capacity is also reduced from 2,330 lbs to 1,240 lbs and its maximum towing capacity from 11,600 lbs to 6,760 lbs.
