2023 ProMaster Cargo Van Interior

You'd be hard-pressed to find a cargo van that is stylish and luxurious inside, with only pricier exceptions like the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter coming close. The ProMaster doesn't break from this trend. There are only two seats as standard, although a double passenger seat can be optioned, taking seating capacity to three. Features and creature comforts are minimal, too, with only basic air-conditioning and power windows to keep you cool. The steering wheel and dashboard design were refreshed last year, but this is still quite a basic cargo van. The infotainment system is decent and easy to operate. A choice of either cloth or vinyl upholstery is offered, but neither is overly comfortable, and the color palette is extremely limited.

Seating and Interior Space

As standard, the ProMaster comes fitted with two bucket seats up front. However, the passenger seat can be traded out for a double seat that accommodates two passengers, taking the total seating capacity to three. Regardless of the seats you choose, there is plenty of head- and legroom for everyone in the cabin. Shoulder and hip room are a little more limited when you have three people on board. The bucket seats offer only four directions of manual adjustment, while the manually adjustable steering column telescopes only and can't tilt, so finding the ideal driving position can be a bit tricky. Opting for the six-way manual front seats can help with this, at least a little. This lack of control, coupled with the raised driving position, can make it uncomfortable for taller drivers. Still, forward visibility is decent, but blind-spot and rear visibility are poor, which is par for the course for a window-less van. However, a rearview camera is standard, while a camera-based digital rearview mirror and surround-view camera can be added to improve visibility. Depending on your needs, a swiveling driver or passenger seat can be fitted, and the passenger seat can even be deleted entirely.

Interior Colors and Materials

Style is unlikely to be a primary concern for buyers of commercial haulers, and Ram doesn't offer much in the way of choice for those who might want it. Cloth upholstery is the standard on every model, while vinyl can be optioned for an additional $300. Regardless of the material you choose, black is the only hue on offer. A leather-wrapped steering wheel is available for $295 if you want the touch of luxury, but it doesn't do much to improve the quality of the interior. For $1,995, leather-trimmed bucket seats are available. For a bit of contrast, bright instrument-panel bezels can be specified for $95, and a wood floor costs $495.

2023 ProMaster Cargo Van Trunk and Cargo Space

Cargo capacity is the primary focus of any hauler van, and the Ram ProMaster doesn't disappoint here. In its most compact configuration, the 1500 with the short wheelbase and standard roof, the Cargo Van already supplies 259 cubic feet of space. Switching to the high roof, available with the regular wheelbase, increases this area to 353 cubic feet. If you plan on doing plenty of heavy-duty hauling, then you will most likely be looking at the 3500. The available extended body, long wheelbase, and high roof all combine to deliver an impressive 463 cubic feet of cargo capacity, increasing to an impressive 520 cu-ft with the Super High Roof. Within these spaces and across these various configurations, payload capacity also varies from a minimum of 3,760 lb to a maximum of 4,680 lbs. The Ram certainly isn't lacking in cargo capacity, and with the new Super High Roof, it now comes very close to the most capable variant of the Ford Transit, which stows 536.4 cubic feet of cargo in its most capacious configuration.

The cargo area is easily accessible thanks to the low step-in height, while the high roof makes it possible for even taller adults to move around the cargo area without too much fuss. The Super High Roof means that even tall people can walk around upright without any issues. The rear doors swing open at a 260-degree angle, while there is a standard sliding door on the right, with an option to add one on the left. This year, the 3500 gets access to a new roll-up rear door to improve accessibility, but it's a pricy option at $6,500. The cargo area can also be customized in a variety of ways, such as adding under-seat storage, a rear-door storage net, or cargo shelves. Small-item storage certainly isn't a focus here, but there are three cupholders up front, along with a small glove compartment, a storage shelf within the dash, and small door pockets.

2023 ProMaster Cargo Van Infotainment and Features

Features

Ram keeps things simple when it comes to standard features to keep costs down, since the primary focus of its cargo van is hauling loads, not keeping drivers or passengers comfortable. Nonetheless, it gets a 3.5-inch driver display, air-conditioning, and power windows to keep the cabin cool, while a manually telescoping steering column and four-way manual front seats are the main convenience features. A 12-volt power outlet is supplied in the front, with an optional extra outlet in the cargo area, which gets lighting as standard. Standard advanced driver-assistance features were expanded last year and include a rearview camera with dynamic gridlines, traffic-sign recognition, drowsiness detection, and full-speed forward-collision warning.

There are quite a few useful upgrades available, from six-way adjustable seats to heated seats, wireless phone charging, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system.

Infotainment

Ram comprehensively updated the ProMaster's infotainment system last year. The Uconnect 5 system comes with a seven-inch touchscreen interface with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, an integrated Alexa in-vehicle assistant, SiriusXM, capability, and Bluetooth connectivity for two devices at the same time. Two USB outlets - one for charging only and one fully functional outlet - can be supplemented by an optional wireless charger. The standard audio system has four speakers. The Uconnect 5C NAV system with navigation and a 10.1-inch touchscreen is available as part of packages.

A Telematic Module is standard and encompasses firmware over-the-air updates, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, a Google Home-to-Vehicle assistant, and a lot more. Ram Telematics also allows vehicle tracking and monitoring of driver-behavior data.
