2023 R1T Truck Safety

As tested by the IIHS, the safety of the Rivian R1T is exemplary. It achieved a top score of Good in all crash-test and other criteria and a 2023 Top Safety Pick+ award, the agency's highest accolade. There are no NHTSA ratings yet because the NHTSA is yet to evaluate the R1T.

2023 R1T Truck Reliability

The Rivian R1T's reliability seems to be good out of the blocks, brand-new car company or not. The R1T earned the highest satisfaction rating of any vehicle in the 2023 JD Power US Electric Vehicle Ownership Study with a score of 794 out of 1,000, so that's a good start, but JD Power has not yet given the R1T an overall score or a Quality & Reliability rating, so we'll reserve judgment. The R1T had its fair share of teething troubles last year in its first model year on the market, but four recalls are not bad. They were for an improperly calibrated airbag, improper airbag deployment, a failing steering knuckle and control arm, and an improperly secured seatbelt.

At the time of writing, the 2023 R1T was still recall-free. The Rivian R1T's warranty cover is certainly above average, with a five-year/60,000-mile comprehensive standard warranty, an eight-year/175,000-mile battery and drivetrain warranty, and an eight-year/unlimited mileage corrosion warranty.
