2023 Ascent Safety

In keeping with Subaru's emphasis on safety, the 2023 Subaru Ascent scored the full five stars in every crash test the NHTSA threw at it. The IIHS review of the Subaru Ascent for 2022 was equally impressive, with Good ratings all round resulting in a Top Safety Pick + award - 2023 crash tests are still pending. This is obviously a great result for a family vehicle, and proves that Subaru's safety reputation is entirely deserved.

2023 Ascent Key Safety Features

Even in Base trim, the Subaru Ascent has lots of safety features as standard. Apart from the usual ABS and stability- and traction control, the Ascent has seven airbags with load limiters in front - dual frontal impact airbags, two seat-mounted front side airbags, two roof-mounted curtain airbags, and a driver's knee airbag. Adaptive LED headlights with automatic on/off control and high-beam assist, along with a rear-view camera system also contribute to the Ascent's active safety suite.

Subaru's EyeSight driver assist technology is fitted across the Ascent range, and includes adaptive cruise control with lane centering, pre-collision braking, lane departure and sway warning, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency steering. From the Premium trim level upwards, blind-spot detection with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert is also included as standard, and a surround-view camera system is optional from Limited trim upwards and standard on the Touring trim.

2023 Ascent Reliability

At the time of publication, there were no recalls for 2023 models, but one active recall relates to a possible fire risk due to an improper earth connection in the electrical system. This affects all 2019 to 2022 Ascent models, although 2019 and 2020 models had a few other issues, too. Apart from this glitch, the Ascent is rated highly in J.D Power customer surveys, with an overall satisfaction rating of 82%, which places it level with the Toyota Highlander, Ford Explorer, and Kia Sorento, and 81 for quality and reliability specifically.

The Subaru Ascent warranty is also fairly comprehensive, with an overall warranty of three years or 36,000 miles, a limited powertrain warranty for five years or 60,000 miles, a limited wear item warranty for three years or 36,000 miles, and a rust perforation warranty for five years with no mileage limit.
