2024 Crosstrek Interior

Durable materials and a functional layout define the interior of the Subaru Crosstrek. It's not as premium-feeling as the Mazda CX-30, but we found it to be a comfortable place to sit since Subaru has designed more supportive front seats. While the design of the interior is still a bit humdrum, the 11.6-inch touchscreen equipped to upper models does give it a much more modern feel, and we have no issue with the fitment of legible anolog gauges split by a small LCD display in the center. The base model comes with dual-zone climate control, automatic start/stop, keyless entry, and welcome lighting. On upper trims, you not only get the larger touchscreen but also nicer materials and features like a power-adjustable driver's seat.

Seating and Interior Space

Even though it generally has greater ground clearance than the competition, ingress and egress are simplified by a practical step-in height. Legroom and headroom are good, especially for those in front, even if the sunroof is equipped. Interior space is a little tighter at the back, but seating is still comfortable enough for average-sized adults, with decent foot space beneath the front seats. The center rear passenger will, however, have to contend with a hump in the center of the floor. As mentioned, the fatigue-reducing design of the front seats in the new Subaru Crosstrek aids comfort, making the car more enjoyable to drive over longer distances than its predecessor.

Interior Colors and Materials

The interior materials of the Subaru Crosstrek feel durable and as if they will hold up over many years. Subaru has strategically placed softer materials in areas where you will often touch, such as the door armrests, but there are quite a few harder plastics on the dashboard, rear door panels, and above the instrument binnacle. Lower trims also make do with a urethane covering for the steering wheel, which doesn't feel as upmarket as the leather-trimmed rim on the top two trims.

Simple cloth upholstery covers the seats in lower trims, although it must be said that the predominantly dark interior colors of the Crosstrek do create a rather somber atmosphere. On the Sport, you get gray cloth with livelier yellow accents, and this combination feels more appropriate in a vehicle that will appeal to the younger set. Yellow metallic trim rings in the gauge cluster are added to the Sport, too.

The Limited comes with black or gray perforated leather upholstery with contrasting orange stitching, and the leather extends to the shift lever boot, door armrests, and center console storage lid. At this level, the interior door handles and window switches also come with a chrome finish.

It may not be the most luxurious cabin in its segment, but the Crosstrek's cabin is solid and feels built to last.

2024 Crosstrek Trunk and Cargo Space

Behind its second row, the Subaru Crosstrek has 19.9 cubic feet of cargo space. That's around as much as you get in the Mazda CX-30, but both fall short of the amount of space in the Honda HR-V's trunk, which has over four cubic feet more volume. With a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, the Crosstrek has up to 54.7 cubes of total cargo space when the rear seats aren't occupied.

Interior storage space is pretty good for smaller items. In front, there are two cupholders placed behind the traditional shift lever, as well as a covered center storage compartment that is of a good size. There are also door pockets and a decently sized glovebox. At the back, there is only a map pocket on the back of the front passenger seat, not the driver's seat. A fold-down rear center armrest contains another two cupholders.

2024 Crosstrek Infotainment and Features

Features

Although it comes with all the essentials, you won't find high-tech features like a digital gauge cluster or a head-up display on the new Subaru Crosstrek. What it does have is automatic start/stop, dual-zone automatic climate control, a small LCD screen in the instrument cluster, a tilt/telescoping steering column, and welcome lighting. The EyeSight suite of driver-assistance gear is standard, and this includes the likes of a pre-collision system in addition to the regulatory rearview camera.

By upgrading to a higher trim or adding optional extras, the Crosstrek gains heated front seats, a ten-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a power moonroof, wireless phone charging, blind-spot detection with lane keep assist, and reverse automatic braking.

Infotainment

Subaru has upgraded the infotainment system for the Crosstrek across the lineup. Gone is the previous 6.5-inch display, and in its place is a new seven-inch display for the Subaru Starlink system. The top screen can be used to access functions like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, and HD Radio. For other vehicle settings and climate functions, there is a second seven-inch display below this.

All other trims come with a new 11.6-inch portrait-style touchscreen interface, one of the largest in the segment. This large screen is excellent for functions like navigation, for example, and the icons are large for easier operation. At the bottom of this screen, there is a permanent display for climate controls. Depending on what's happening on the top of the screen, the driver is occasionally presented with a mass of icons and options, which can look a bit messy. Fortunately, Subaru has retained physical controls for the volume knob, climate control temperature, and the available heated seats, so the screen doesn't need to be accessed for everything. With the larger screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are wireless.

A USB-A input/charging port and 3.5 mm auxiliary input are standard on the base model, and the Premium adds a USB-C port in front, along with USB-A and USB-C charging ports at the back. The top two trims get wireless charging.

A six-speaker sound system is equipped to lower trims, but a ten-speaker Harman Kardon sound system is available optionally on some models.
