The Model X Performance, previously known as P100D, is the top-spec SUV in Tesla’s 2019 model range and starts at $100,250 (including the $3,750 EV Incentive) before options. It is capable of 289 miles on a single charge and will silently race from zero to 60 mph in an incredible 3.5 seconds.
For a further $20,000 you can add the Ludicrous mode option to the Performance model which increases acceleration by 20 percent. That means a further 0.7-seconds off the already mad 60 mph sprint time.
Handling is commendable for such a big and heavy vehicle but larger wheels can spoil the ride. The interior is spacious and can be configured either as a five-, six- or seven-seater. An Autopilot feature which adds autonomous driver aids and a ‘Full Self-Driving Capability’ option which adds a summon feature and automated highway driving can be optioned. Both are impressive but as with any self-driving system they have their limitations and the driver should remain fully alert at all times.
