2020 Sienna Interior

The Sienna has an angular dash layout that looks very old compared to its competitors; additionally, the layout is not particularly ergonomic and takes some getting used to. The seats are very comfortable, however. Lower trims receive cloth upholstery, with leather made available further up the price ladder. Of course, the whole point of a minivan is space, and in that department, the Sienna shines. It comes as either a seven-seater or an eight-seater, with the eighth seat being removable. There is also a massive cargo area, and the third row of seats can fold down to increase storage space; the second row of seats is also fully removable to allow pickup-like cargo space. A variant with customized seating is also available that allows for passengers with mobility challenges to be assisted in and out of the vehicle by means of the Auto Access Seat - a power-rotating lift-up seat extending from the vehicle to lower the passenger to the ground. The interior, although comfortable, can do with a modernized update.

Seating and Interior Space

There's comfortable seating for either seven or eight passengers, depending on trim level. The entry-level model offers seven seats with captain's chairs in the second row; there are also four LATCH tether locations and a six-way adjustable driver's seat. On the LE variant, seating for up to eight is available in fabric-trimmed seats, with the second row tipping up and sliding into stowage position. The SE trim level upgrades to perforated leather-trimmed seating with multi-stage heating in the front. The next model up, the XLE adds leatherette second and third-row seats with 60/40 split. On the top-of-the-range Limited model, seven passengers are accommodated in premium leather-trimmed second-row captain's chairs or available lounge seating. A power third-row seat is also available on the front-wheel-drive model.

For the driver, ample headroom of 41 inches is available, and with legroom of 40.5 inches is on par with what the Honda Odyssey has to offer. Even six-foot drivers will feel at home in the cockpit. The second row of the Sienna has more headroom than its Honda counterpart, at 39.7 inches, while legroom of 37.6-inches is slightly less than rivals but is still comfortable for taller occupants. The third row is much tighter on space, with less available room than main competitors, and is best suited for children only.

Interior Colors and Materials

The interior is a combination of hard and soft-touch plastics, with the latter being slightly more dominantly used. The almost-obligatory faux chrome accents are added sparingly, and on the top-end trim are replaced with carbon-fiber-look accents or a wood finish. The L and LE trims have cloth interior in either Ash or Dark Bisque, while the SE gets perforated Black Leather. The XLE is available in the same Ash or Bisque, just in the leather, and the Limited upgrades to perforated leather in Ash or Chestnut.

2020 Sienna Trunk and Cargo Space

One of the areas of excellence for the Sienna is the class-leading cargo space available. With a full load of seven - or eight - occupants, this minivan remains practical by offering 39.1 cubic feet of trunk space. This is substantially more than the Sedona can offer, and even tops the popular Honda Odyssey's 38.6 cubic feet. Additionally, the Sienna has versatility on its side, and with the third row of seats folded down, opens up to 87.1 cubic feet - more than enough space for camping gear, luggage for a big family and all the fishing equipment needed for an adventurous vacation. A cavernous 150 cubic feet becomes available with all seats tucked away.

In addition to the cargo area, vehicles like the Sienna have loads of space for small items throughout the cabin too. A substantial glovebox can hold a purse or tablet, and a front tray in the dash area is available for pocket change. Cupholders in the front, rear and third-row are thoughtfully located, and seatback pockets allow for slender items to be stored. Additionally, there are front and rear door pockets, a huge storage bin between the front seats in the center console, as well as storage compartments for third-row passengers.

It also includes trial versions of Scout GPS Link, Safety Connect, and Wi-Fi Connect. Siri Eyes Free is incorporated from the base model, and HD Radio with Audio Plus features are added on the LE model. Voice command controls are added to the XLE and Limited trims, but further enhancements need to be by purchasing additional packages, to incorporate such features as Dynamic Navigation, a premium JBL sound system, and an optional Dual-View Blu-ray Disc Entertainment Center, featuring 16.4-inch display. There's still no sign of Android Auto, though, a feature now standard in all key rivals including the Odyssey and Sedona.
