2023 Tundra Interior

This is a highlight of the new Tundra, because its interior is now one of the nicest in its segment. There is a strong horizontal emphasis in the design, which heightens the impression of width in the cabin, and the dashboard sits quite low to create a large visual cabin volume. The view is however dominated by the touchscreen on top of the center stack, with handy clusters of shortcut switches for the climate control as well as a large volume control knob. SR and SR5 trims feature an 8-inch display here, with a 14-inch item standard from the Limited trim upwards.

Material quality is good throughout the cabin, but hard plastics are used for the instrument panel on SR and SR5 trims, and even in the upmarket models, some hard plastics are still in use below the hip level. Different trim levels add their own, model-dependent detailing and color combinations, while available upholstery features run from plain cloth to genuine leather.

Seating and Interior Space

Both Toyota Tundra cab styles feature two seating rows, accessible through four doors, and both offer seating capacity for five people. The Double Cab is the smaller one, though, so its rear seating row has less available space than you'd get in a CrewMax body, and its access to the rear bench isn't as effortless as it is in a CrewMax, either. The Double Cab offers a somewhat tight 33 inches of rear legroom as opposed to the CrewMax's generous 41.6 inches, but the CrewMax actually has an inch less rear shoulder room at 62.4 inches.

Headroom and hip room are identical with all bodies, however, and their front-seat dimensions are also the same. The front cabin offers at least 39.3 inches of headroom with a moonroof (41 inches without), along with 41.2 inches of legroom and 65 inches of shoulder room, which is slightly less than you'd get in a Ford F-150, but it's still nowhere near cramped.

Interior Colors and Materials

In the base SR trim level, the Tundra is upholstered in black cloth only, but the SR5 offers the choice between black and Boulder (medium gray). SofTex leatherette in the same colors is an alternative, provided the SR5 Premium Pack and leather steering wheel options are selected at a premium of $2,290.

The Limited includes SofTex as standard, available in black or Boulder. These trim colors also apply to the armrests and center console. The Platinum gets black genuine leather all over.

In the 1794 Edition, Saddle Tan or Rich Cream leather upholstery covers the seats, dashboard, armrests, and center console. There are also smaller inserts in the dash and doors of upscale variants, with the 1794 Edition getting walnut woodgrain trim.

2023 Tundra Trunk and Cargo Space

While the Toyota Tundra offers three different bed lengths, their other cargo dimensions are identical. Their respective bed interior lengths are 65.6 inches for the 5.5-ft bed, 77.6 inches for the 6.5-ft bed, and 96.1 inches for the 8.1-ft bed. All load beds have a depth of 20.9 inches, a total bed width of 58.7 inches, and 48.7 inches between the rear wheel wells.

It's interesting to note that the new Tundra's load beds are all constructed from a composite material to improve dent-resistance. Toyota also features an easy lower-and-lift tailgate to take some of the muscle work out of closing the load bin, but no option for a multifunction tailgate with a built-in step that some rivals offer is available. Interior stowage is good too, with large door bins in all doors, a big cubby hole, a voluminous center console box, and at least two cup holders for each occupant.

2023 Tundra Infotainment and Features

Features

In entry-level SR trim, the Toyota Tundra's standard interior features include keyless entry with push-button start, power windows with one-touch up and down operation, single-zone climate control, cloth upholstery with four-way manual front-seat adjustment, manual tilt-and-telescoping steering-wheel adjustment, an analog instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch color driver-information display, a backup camera with dynamic guidelines, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, and steering-mounted remote controls for the audio system, phone, and driving assistants.

Higher-level trims add more features, such as dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, a digital gauge cluster, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, surround-view cameras, powered steering-wheel adjustment, a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front and rear seats, and leather upholstery. Some of these items are standard on high-spec models, and some can be added to lower-trim models as either standalone options or as bundled option packages.

All Tacomas are also equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 safety assistant suite, which comprises pre-collision detection with automatic emergency braking, full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assistance, lane-keeping assistance, automatic high beams, pedestrian detection, and road-sign recognition. From Limited trim upwards, this is expanded with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and trailer-merge warning, while these add-ons are optional for the SR5.

Infotainment

The baseline infotainment system is fitted to SR and SR5 trims, and comprises an eight-inch color touchscreen display with six speakers in Double Cab models and nine speakers in CrewMax variants. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with SiriusXM compatibility and an available Wi-Fi hotspot, subject to available subscriptions.

Two upgrade options are available, with the first being a larger 14-inch touchscreen, which can be ordered for the SR5 trim level but is standard from the Limited trim upward. The second audio upgrade is standard on Platinum, and 1794 Edition trims, but optional for the Limited, and comprises a JBL premium system with 12 speakers including an external amplifier and subwoofer.
