The Golf R looks noticeably meaner than the standard GTI, and we would describe it as refined yet aggressive. The 2023 model year comes fitted with 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in summer tires, a set of LED headlights, LED taillights, and LED DRLs. Other R-specific touches include matte chrome exterior mirror caps, an R-Line design rear spoiler, and signature puddle lighting for the front doors. There is an integrated light bar in the front grille, and the door handle recesses are illuminated. Standard tech includes a power tilting/sliding panoramic sunroof, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and power-operated, heated side mirrors with memory. Exterior Colors

The automaker keeps the paint palette sweet and simple by offering only three exterior colors for the 2023 VW Golf R: Lapiz Blue Metallic, Deep Black Pearl, or Pure White. The car looks great in any of the colors, and we like the stealthy look of Deep Black, but most will end up going for that attractive blue. There's not much you can do to change up the looks, but opting for the 20th Anniversary Edition adds gloss black mirror caps if you choose Lapiz Blue exterior paint and will contrast the white or black body color with Lapiz Blue mirrors.
