Available in only one trim, the Golf R is a standalone model that limits basic choices to transmission. The standard R is equipped with a 288 hp 2.0-liter turbo and a six-speed manual. Power is sent predominantly to the front wheels, with the rear wheels receiving a portion of that output when necessary. Park sensors with active park assist, LED lighting all around with adaptive headlights, dual-zone climate control, heated seats, keyless entry and dynamic chassis control are all included with the purchase price. Driver aids include forward-collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert. A choice of five standard colors is included with 40 new shades available at an added cost. Infotainment comprises an eight-inch touch display with smartphone integration and a Fender audio system. Before charges and taxes, a standard Golf R costs $40,395.
