Volkswagens don't come hotter than this. The VW Golf R is offered as a standalone model and is available in two trims, but both VW Golf Rs have the same specs. The lineup includes the base model and a 20th Anniversary Edition. Each Golf R comes standard with a 315 hp turbocharged 2.0-liter engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A six-speed manual is available.
The exterior features 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in summer tires, a set of LED headlights, and a power tilting and sliding panoramic sunroof. The interior gets power-adjustable heated seats front and rear, ventilated front-row seats, ambient interior lighting, tri-zone automatic climate control, four USB-C charging ports, and a digital Pro cockpit display. Standard driver assistance features include active blind spot monitor, rear traffic alert, lane assist, forward collision warning, and autonomous emergency braking.
The 20th Anniversary Edition gets special styling updates and genuine carbon fiber interior accents.
Volkswagen does not offer much in the way of optional extras, so other than the choice of transmission and exterior color, there isn't much you can add. There are a few accessories you can have, such as bike or kayak attachments, a Bumperdillo protection plate, dynamic wheel center caps, or rear sunshades. The only worthy addition is the LED dynamic turn signals which will cost you $265.
